About the Author

Ed Tittel is president of LANWrights, Inc., an Austin-based consultancy firm, and a member of the Networld & Interop Committee. With over 15 years of computer industry experience, Ed applies his knowledge to networking industry topics, training, and issues. The author of ten books, and more than 200 articles for publications including BYTE, InfoWorld, I-Way, NetGuide, PC Magazine and WindowsNT Magazine, Ed is also a columnist for Interop Online.

Steve James is a 15 year personal computer industry veteran with SNJames Consulting, an Austin-based firm specializing in Web page design, Internet research, marketing and business plans, and user's manuals for clients. Along with Ed Tittel, Steve is the co-author of the first edition, ISDN Networking Essentials (AP Professional).

David M. Piscitello is the principal at Core Competence, Inc., a Philadelphia-based networking research and consulting firm. Dave has also been involved in Internet development and OSI technology for over 20 years. Prior to founding CCI, Dave won a Bellcore President's Recognition Award for his contributions to SMDS, ATM, and customer network management of switched data services. He is the author of Open Systems Networking: TCP/IP and OSI, and is a university lecturer and technology conference seminar instructor.

Lisa Phifer is a vice-president at Core Competence, Inc., in charge of designing and developing open network management and operations systems solutions for data and multi-services networks. A Bellcore President's Recognition Award recipient for her contributions to the North Carolina Information Highway (NCIH) and the Bell South Broadband (ATM) operations system, Lisa has been involved in the deployment of network management software, protocols, information models, operations systems, and data communications products for over 14 years.

Ed Tittel is a full-time freelance writer, trainer, and consultant who specializes in information security, markup languages, and networking technologies. He is a regular contributor to numerous TechTarget websites; teaches online security and technology courses for HP; and writes regularly for Tom's Hardware and ITExpertVoice.

Ed has contributed to over 100 books on various computing subjects, including a dozen different titles in the ...For Dummies series. He is probably best known for creating the Exam Cram series of IT certification prep books in 1997, and for having edited that series from 1997 until 2006. Ed's best-selling titles include "HTML, XHTML and CSS For Dummies" (soon to go into a 7th edition, for a cumulative total of 13 editions of HTML For Dummies titles he's worked on), "The Guide to TCP/IP" (which he co-authored with protocol expert Laura Chappell), "Windows Server 2008 For Dummies," and "Networking Essentials." He's also written numerous titles on security including the "CISSP Study Guide" (4th edition, with co-authors James Michael Stewart and Mike Chapple), "The PC Magazine Guide to Fighting Spyware, Viruses, and Malware," and the "TISCA Training Guide."
