This is a fine representation of island music and another home run for the folks at Putumayo! Put this on and I guarantee it will definitely help the winter doldrums. If you've been to the islands, you know what I mean, it will take you back. This is the real deal, not Jimmy Buffett ideal, (don't get me wrong , he's great although getting a bit commercialized) this is what you need for hosting an island themed party. Everyone loves it because it's so different. Exotic, but not over the top; It dosen't matter if you don't understand the lyrics, the music moves you at a more basic level that transcends language.

I heard this at my favorite coffee shop (The Coffee shop in Thornton Park - Orlando, FL) and had to have it. This is a great mix of island music that will transport you to the islands. Reminds me of days spent island hopping! After 'discovering' this Putumayo blend, I have ordered Calypso and other cd's. They are wonderfully relaxing to listen to while trapped at work dreaming of an island adventure! Great for the body and soul!

This is truly an amazing CD. There is not one song that does not fascinate me. It is guaranteed to make you feel good and to make you feel like you're on vacation. It's my favorite.

I have listened to this CD many times and love the light-hearted nature of the music. It carries me away to an island everytime I hear it. It makes me feel good. I highly recommend it.

Any Putumayo CD is well worth the purchase, but this one is perfect for bringing sunshine to a rainy day (And dancing toes to your feet)

This is a wonderful collection of songs. At first hearing though, I was a little suprised. I wasn't really expecting it to be dance music as such. I think I was expecting more in the line of soft romantic ballads with a tropical flavour or something. But I still thoroughly enjoy the music here and each and every track is a good one. I particularly like the Bobby and Angelo song from Tahiti, which is sung in Tahitian and has a very exotic sound. The booklet isn't as colourful as later Putumayo releases are, but there is an informative piece on each artist and their song. This is a great summer album and highly recommended.

"Danca ma mi Criola" is a bouncy love song."Me ki sa oule" is a lilting song of longing."Bomba traigo yo" is joyfully infectious.The BEST songs are "Falso Testemunho" from Cape Verde&"Veinte anos" from Cuba.Both these songs are about unrequited love&betrayal.For popular songs,they are moving."Sonegaly" is an enchanting song from Madagascar.Tarika hasn't been as good since."E I Taurua"&"Olinda Road" are magical songs from Tahiti&Hawaii.

D'Gary&Jihe from Madagascar as well as Quito Rymer from Tortola aren't quite so good.Interesting sidenote-Rymer's "Mix up world" is one of the themes for Putumayo's World Music Hour.Oh well.

This is still a good album."South Pacific Islands" is EVEN BETTER."Islands" has held up for a good 9 yrs since its release.No wonder it's still in print.How many pop albums last that long???

My whole family loves this CD. My 2 year old daughter dances up a storm and my 4 year old son puts on his jolly roger do-rag and swashbuckles about. A little mellower and less adventurous, musically, than similar compilations, but the quality is higher throughout.

A delightful compilation of "natural" music! Fine singers and players on acoustic, native instruments present a flavorful and varied buffet of different musics from far-flung islands. Sunny sounds from sunny places. Don't miss this

It doesn't get much better than this. I love this album in the hot, hot summer. And it's great for chasing away the "no sun ever, winter blues" in Pittsburgh. This music makes me feel, happy and sexy!
