Book Description

August 2, 1994
To succeed in today's high-stakes international marketplace, global companies have to be tougher - and better - than their competition. And that means measuring up to the quality standards that the world judges suppliers and partners by: the ISO 9000 Series. But when it actually comes down to becoming certified to the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9000 standard, many companies are at a loss. Newly revised to reflect the latest changes to the standards, the second edition of this popular guide contains everything companies need to know to meet the competitive requirements of ISO 9000. Authors John T. Rabbitt and Peter A. Bergh demystify the process of complying with this quality standard by laying out the basics of what ISO 9000 is, what it means to your organization, how it fits into your overall quality efforts, and why you may be required to comply. They provide practical, firsthand advice based on their quality improvement experiences at The Foxboro Company, one of the first U.S. companies to become fully certified to ISO 9001.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"If you've ever asked yourself, 'What in the world is ISO 9000 and what does it mean to me?' this book should be on your reading list. [The authors have] tackled a very complicated topic and presented the essential details in a non-technical, highly readable book." -- Alan Rooks, Director of Communications, Paper Industry Management Association

"If you expect to compete in the global economy, read this book. Rabbitt and Bergh do an excellent job detailing a straight-forward approach to ISO compliance and certification." -- Tom Petillo, President, Qualtec Quality Services, Inc.

"The authors' crisp account of how The Foxboro Company used ISO 9000 to dramatically improve its operations and solidify its future ought to be required reading for anyone running an industrial facility." -- Charles R. Day, Jr., Editor-in-Chief, Industry Week

"This work is an important contribution to the furthering of world-class manufacturing by American companies." -- Ross E. Robson, Ph.D., Executive Director, Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ISO 9000 standard and its application in layman's terms, December 20, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The ISO 9000 Book: A Global Competitor's Guide to Compliance and Certification (Hardcover)
An attempt to demystify the ISO 9000 standard and the process of complying with it. Firsthand experience in the certification process allows the authors to clarify what is required in each step of the certification process. In clear, nontechnical terms, the book lays out: the interpretation of the standard for your organization, determination of the cost and length of time required, indentification of and focus on the quality assurance areas that are the subject of rigorous auditing, and gauging your organization's readiness. Of particular use are the sections on part by part analysis of what the standards really mean and the checklist for the determination of whether or not your company is ready for ISO certification.
