The International Standard Version (ISV®) is a new translation directly from the original languages of Scripture and derived from no other English translation. It was produced by Bible scholars who believe that "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16 ISV). For example, it carefully preserves the literary forms of the original languages, translating original-language poetry into poetry, giving English readers a sense of the Bible's original poetic language. It also takes special note of synoptic parallels in the New Testament, comparing all parallel passages in original languages and rendering parallels exactly where original language manuscripts contain word-for-word parallels and translating parallels approximately when indicated by original manuscripts. This attention to parallelism allows readers to understand connections between the synoptic gospels more clearly.

This version (ISV) is available online for download to be used with eSword which is also free. I'm going to wait for the leather bound complete ISV Bible which is due out this summer. This one seems a bit pricey. What I like about this version is that it captures the information in verb tenses which other translations don't seem to do. Like 1 John 1:9, ISV says, "If we make it our habit to confess our sins..." instead of merely "If we confess our sins..." I've read some critiques elsewhere that eventhough the translators attempted to avoid wording that would confuse non-American English speakers such as Australians and others, the international readers complain that some phrases sound American and therefore not as clear to them. But, being American, that's good news for me. I like NASB and ESV and I don't mind NKJV too much, but I often run into issues with NIV though in some cases it is best. It is looking like ISV may become my primary version. I hope they offer a study Bible version sometime soon.
