Check out the author and publisher before buying, February 5, 2010
I think it's important to know the publisher and author's track record and business conditions to assess the quality of their products, so here are some facts:
1. The publisher is Emereo Pty Ltd, and has been in existence for less than 2.5 years
2. The publisher's web site has many key sections that are "Under Construction", eg. the author's commissions section, the FAQ's section and the "How to Publish your Book" section.
3. It operates out of a small office on the 2nd floor of a 2-story rundown building in Brasbane Australia and has less than 10 people on staff.
4. The owner of Emereo, Ivanka Menken, is also the main author, and she's churning out 100 titles per year (do the math, 3.5 days per book, which is amazing in terms of productivity; as for the quality of its products, go figure...)
5. Ivanka Menken migrated to Australia from the Netherlands a few years ago before founding Emereo, it's unclear what she did in the Netherlands, as she chose to not reveal the details on her web site.
6. The average reader review of this books is fantastic, but most of the reviewers has reviewed just one book: yes, this one. Ivanka Menken then went to great lengths on her blog to boast the fact that she wrote an amazon best seller on IT services.
7. On her blog, Ivanka Menken wrote about dozens of the lastest fads in IT, such as cloud computing, IT governence, IT service management, and proclaims herself as an industry expert on the subject.
OK, I don't know much about her or the IT services industry, but becoming an industry expert in a few years, writing 100 books per year, OMG, something just don't add up here.
Anyway, time will tell.
Oh, right, what about the book? I skimmed thru it and the contents taste like sand. The book and the exam itself are a complete joke.

This item prepared me well for the ITIL Foundation exam, February 5, 2010
This is a good program and worked for me. I purchased the book and online program last week, and after 4-5 days of on and off studying I passed the exam with an 87%. Like the other reviews have said the online program is better than the book itself, but make sure to study both. There is some material in the book in more detail that is not in the online program. But if you study them both you will have things covered. Good luck.

It delivers!, January 13, 2010
After I decided to take the ITIL v3 Foundations exam I started to search for self-study references and this book (and online course) by The Art of Service seemed to be a good study guide. The book delivered it's promise: it covers the overall foundations of the ITIL v3 framework in a very detailed way while also aiming to prepare you to the certification exam. The only course is a perfect complement to the book and goes directly to the point. The results couldn't be better: I just got back from my exam with a passing score!
If you're looking for one single reference for the ITIL v3 Foundations exam, I strongly recommend you take a chance with this book. And be sure to go through the online course wich is VERY helpful.

Wonderful Training Material!, December 31, 2009
The book and the online training that comes with it are fantastic. With these materials, you should easily pass the ITIL v3 Foundation exam - I did!

Low quality book and certification, December 31, 2009
I concur with David Veuve's review. (Palo Alto, California United States) The book had so many typos that I found it difficult to follow or trust the content. The book is not that long such that someone with some sense could have proof read it in a few hours. A few specifics:
* Page 37: At the bottom of the page the content stops in the middle of a sentence. It is a cliffhanger gone bad.
* Page 49: The last sentence uses SOA but it is not defined anywhere. Isn't it book writing 101 to include a definition and acronym section?
I only attempted this certification because my current employer felt it had value. I have an MBA and the PMP certification and I have worked in the industry for many years so it was not like I starting at ground zero. I certainly cannot recommend this book and I found the test to be of an equal low quality. Two co-workers and I got ITIL certified this year and we all agree that the certification test is ridiculous. Many trick or poorly worded questions. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY on this book or certification.

Best Book for ITIL (F) Exam, December 28, 2009
I passed the ITIL(F) with ~91%. I read the each chapter of the book and then refered same chapter on the online study material. Total time spent around 40 hrs. This book give very good understanding of the subject and the life cylce of ITIL. The practise materials are excellent.
Best Book to refer if preparing for ITIL(F)

The approach taken by The Art of Service worked extremely well for my objective to get ITIL v3 Foundation certificate.
Though, the material in the original Certification Kit was easy to understand and follow, the solutions from The Art of Service, such as audio programs underlining the most important parts of the original material, self-check questions, and overall structured plan to score the highest marks on certification itself, made a significant difference.
Now, I'm looking forward to go for ITIL Expert with the help of other products from the provider.

Comprehensive, December 14, 2009
This kit included just about everything asked in my V3 Foundation exam. While the book was great, what set this product apart is the website with its online training, forum, and extra material. Passed on my first try with 87%.
