Biography

Diamond Rio are an award-winning country fusion band who add bluegrass and rock ‘n’ roll into the mix. Originally called the Tennessee River Boys, they cut their teeth performing at Nashville’s Opryland, though they took the name Diamond Rio when they decided to take to the road in 1989.

Having secured a record deal with Arista, they released their self-titled debut in 1991. The album was taken to… Read more in Amazon's Diamond Rio Store

4.0 out of 5 stars 'IV' gets four ....., September 6, 2003
This review is from: IV (Audio CD)
'IV' starts out with a song that is quite the staple of these 'good ol' boys' who value the morals of being raised well. 'Holdin'' has love with arms wrapped around it. A sweet love song. 'Walkin' Away' is the best on the disc, capturing a very well executed rock-country formula, and is different. And as they pull some tricks like breaks, sharp short solos and other things time to time, they do so without making a mess at all. 'Who Am I' makes a bit too much sop for itself on how a man loves a woman, and gets sleepy. Still, not bad. A much better ballad, and perhaps the best they've done to date is an absolute heart tugger: 'She Misses Him On Sunday The Most'. Beautifully done with timeless sounds from vocals and music. There's much needed fun after the sad stuff, and two songs give it: 'She Sure Did Like To Run' hops into the front seat and takes us places. This also has a great contemporary roots-country sound, fast and fun. Or, have a listen with the near equal 'Love Takes You There'. Jimmy Olander never disappoints, and stands out on these two. A man who knows how to play guitar. 'Its All In Your Head' walks the line between truth and perception, with the boys taking up a solid blues and serious rock sound for this one. Lead vocalist Marty Roe thankfuly doesn't preach, but states the facts. A different tune that grits it's teeth, and gets unusually agressive is ' Is That Askin' Too Much'. It's about time the boys didn't just "half way" get down right tough. The instrumental 'BIG' cruises to a smackin' beat from Brian Prout and although it mostly does impress, Marty Roe tries to 'cool it up' saying 'boom, crack, boom-boom crack' throughout, and ruins it. 'Appalaichan Dreams', from their better album 'Love A Little Stronger', was a beauty. See, there it didn't add anything it didn't need. At times they slip off their plateau and look to be worldly cool, instead of how we see them, which is more genuine and undesperate. Overall, "IV" is a really good album, but stands under their best ever, 'Love A Little Stronger'.

This is albums got some good songs on it. I like the instrumental at the end ("Big"). "It's All in Your Head" is very good also. But I recommend getting Diomand Rio's "Greatest Hits" instead.
