Review

"I loved IVRRAC. It has it all - romance, surprising plot twists, edge of your seat moments, and a storyline that you just want to keep reading. It has a great plot which really makes you think."

Product Description

The world is changing, more people are being sent to prison than ever before. There is now an opening for privatised prisons and rehabilitation centres to relieve the government owned prisons of this ever increasing influx. A few years into the future a new firm known as IVRRAC gets approval from the New Zealand government to rehabilitate minor offenders. They have had a one hundred per cent success rate with thieves, small time drug sellers and extortionists; however their costs are hardly covered by what the government is willing to pay for their services. So when the government offers them an obscene amount of money to take Simon, a murderer of seven rich socialite women, they jump at the chance.

IVRRAC has never rehabilitated a murderer before so they are unsure about how successful their unique rehabilitation technique will be. Simon is also a vicious and insidious killer so they have to be very careful as they know their technique could fail. Do they keep him locked up in case of failure? No after processing Simon, to prove the technique works, they ship him out to the richest valley in New Zealand, Trentsworth and immerse him into a society full of the people he has spent the last fourteen years murdering.

If Simon can spend six months in Trentsworth without killing one of the locals the technique has worked and he is a free man. Of course IVRRAC has men on the ground to catch him before any harm can befall his neighbours. Simon is well aware he is under surveillance and this increases his desire to escape the valley and IVRRAC’s forever watchful eyes.

Through his ambition to escape he falls in love with Kyndrea his new next door neighbour whose father owns the only amphibian plane and means of escape in the valley. After a time he realises she could never love him back once she knew his history and he decides to use her solely for his escape. From the aftermath of his subsequent actions he discovers what the acronym IVRRAC stands for, the dark murderous secrets of the IVRRAC process and that Trentsworth is not at all what he thought it was.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual and enjoyable suspense novel, August 20, 2010

A seven-times murderer who kills those whom he considers to have too much in the way of the finer things of life - he calls them "richies" - is finally caught and sentenced. But instead of being tossed in jail forever he is offered the opportunity to undergo a new and unique rehabilitation technique, which, if it succeeds, may see him back in society in six months. There is a downside - a slight chance he may die in the process. Naturally he takes the offer.

IVRRAC is an unusual and enjoyable suspense novel, something a little different from most suspense novels. Not quite Sci-fi, more just advanced technology. And the setting is gorgeous - a fictional mountain and lakeside town that is modelled closely on one of New Zealand's most popular resort towns.

Although the writing style is somewhat stilted at times, the book is an easy read. Unfortunately there are a few typos, but the formatting is good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not to Miss, August 19, 2010

I heard about this book on the Kindle forum and at first glance thought that it was not in a genre that I normally read.

I downloaded the sample of this book first, and was so intrigued that as soon as I reached the end of the sample, I downloaded the book.

Don't even bother with the sample, get the whole book, you will not be sorry.

My one complaint is the fact that I guessed what was going on from the airplane ride but that is my fault and not the authors. Even knowing what was going on did not in any way intrude on the enjoyment of the story and it didn't prepare me for the ending.

This is a book that you do not want to miss. It is fast paced and will make you take a look around you in a new light. There is a minor amount of profanity, but it is placed where it should have been. There are times when "gosh darnit" would just not been true to the character or to what was happening to them.

I can't tell you much about the story without giving something away.

I can tell you that it is the story of a man, Simon, who has killed seven people. He is brutal and quite frankly, insane, but what happens to him is unexpected and shocking. Every character in this book is well developed and you will find yourself knowing all of them by the end of the book. You will feel what they are feeling and sometimes find yourself talking to them as if you know them.

Don't hesitate to buy this book, IVRRAC, you will not regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good with a surprising twist, September 8, 2010

Unlike Frankie, I didn't catch onto the twist until it was revealed. (Maybe I'm slow--lol) I've never read a story like this and it is definitely unique on its own. Simon/Scott basically is a sort of demented Robin Hood. Instead of stealing from the rich to give to the poor, he kills them. I won't give anything else away, but as others have said, the book is fast-paced and doesn't waste time with filler chapters. The only downsides are the punctuation and occasional grammar errors (I majored in journalism & minored in English so I'm anal about those things), but I think this book is self-published. If a big publishing house with editorial resources took a chance on this author, they would not be disappointed.

More About the Author

Born in Timaru 1967 to a local pharmacist and school teacher, Peter has been writing as a hobby since the age of 9 when he started writing a book of very short stories and a series of radio plays recorded on private audio tape. At the age of thirteen he was introduced to the technique of stop motion and with this way of making movies he wrote and produced short fiction films with his father's Super 8 camera throughout his high school years.

Another project in his high school years was his father's old train set. He rebuilt the set underneath the family's house he named the trainset "Trentsworth" and developed a history for the town, mainly to explain why a New Zealand alpine town had a European gauge rather than the standard narrow gauge. He also had to explain away a European castle that he was given as a model for the trainset one birthday. This trainset is the location of his first published novel, IVRRAC and will be the location of his new children's detective series - Trentsworth Terrors.

Peter went onto university to study Computer Science; there he wrote his first full comedy adventure, BOAS, which had his friends in continuous laughter and an updated version of this satirical work, is now being developed.

He moved to Auckland and began work at a charity as their Information Technology and database support person. There he married his wife Diana and they moved south to Geraldine to own and operate a backpackers' hostel. Here Peter was called by God to go into ministry and he began studying at Laidlaw College to study a Bachelor of Theology. They sold the business but remained in South Canterbury to enjoy the local lifestyle and giving Peter the opportunity to finish off the many stories he has been developing over the years.

With the super-8 movies, various other creative projects and the plots that Peter has been developing for over 30 years he has a large source of exciting plots and adventures to source from. So we can expect many good quality books for years to come by this imaginative author.
