5.0 out of 5 stars Full of information.
This book is full of useful tricks to help one retain memory and become a better thinker. However, unlike many other books of its type, it is highly entertaining and full of amusement. There are tidbits of information that trivia buffs will find useful, but for the most part the book is a refresher course for everthing they taught you (or at least tried to teach you) in...

2.0 out of 5 stars I must be missing something
I'm already an owner of Ms Vos Savant's other publication (Brain Building in Just 12 weeks) and purchased that many years back. Seeing some other titles here on Amazon I took the plunge since I can't see how , as the cover says, the 'world's smartest woman' couldn't teach me many, many things (and why the cover says that I don't know. I thought she was the world's...

This review is from: I'Ve Forgotten Everything I Learned in School: A Refresher Course to Help You Reclaim Your Education (Paperback)
This book is full of useful tricks to help one retain memory and become a better thinker. However, unlike many other books of its type, it is highly entertaining and full of amusement. There are tidbits of information that trivia buffs will find useful, but for the most part the book is a refresher course for everthing they taught you (or at least tried to teach you) in school. If you're even vaguely interested in improving your mind and want to learn all the stuff you found so boring in school, this book is a wonderful aid.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As a long time fan of Marilyn Von Savant, I was so pleased to find a book written to satisify two of my constant needs: a thirst for knowledge and assistance with cognitive neurologist therapy due to TBI ( truamaic brain injury ) as a result of severe/extreme domestic violence. * This book is great for those who wish to enrich, re-enrich, or re-develop brain function. * A must have book, for those of use to fit into these categories or merely wish to indulge in quenching their thirst for knowledge.

2.0 out of 5 stars I must be missing something, August 7, 2008
I'm already an owner of Ms Vos Savant's other publication (Brain Building in Just 12 weeks) and purchased that many years back. Seeing some other titles here on Amazon I took the plunge since I can't see how , as the cover says, the 'world's smartest woman' couldn't teach me many, many things (and why the cover says that I don't know. I thought she was the world's 'smartest' person as originally tested but the cover does make that distinction.) Anyway...

I found the content rather dull and, more importantly, nothing that wasn't a reflection of what had been in her other publication. And what's here gets a rather insipid treatment compared to other authors. Memory, the first chapter, offers a small test and then talks about mnemonics as an aid. That's about it for memory. Vocabulary? here's generic and specialised vocabulary. Did you know many words have nuance of meaning. She suggests reading through vocabulary building books. Sure. If only I were smart enough to have thought of that.

Seriously, much of my angst and disappointmnet is surely that I, as a foreign buyer, had to get this second hand, pay for international postage and found that my second-hand title ended up costing around $25. Meh...that's OK if it's good value material. But I cannot find any particular reason to believe that anyone who might find a title by this woman of interest won't find most of the material of little real value.
