These, along with the Almost Golf P3 Almost Golf Practice Ball 36 Pack balls, are the best golf practice balls that I've found. They're made of soft rubber and won't break any windows or dent your car (I've hit mine numerous times). With dimples like a real golf ball, they take spin and give you a good idea about the kind of swing you've made. You need some room to hit these, though. With a 9-iron, I can hit these anywhere from, say, 40-65 yards. I have no idea how the distance with this ball compares to a real golf ball. Maybe half or a third the distance. I'll find out next time I visit the range. When I compare these with the Almost Golf P3 Almost Golf Practice Ball 36 Pack balls, which I also highly recommend, the key difference is feel. The Callaways are very soft, and with that much give in them, at impact you have a hard time really feeling the clubhead compress the ball. The sound tells you when you've made good contact, and then you watch ball flight. With the Almost Golf balls, they're a hard kind of rubber, and when I hit those, I can actually feel and see, in my mind's eye, the clubhead squared up against the ball, and I know where it's going from that instant. So the sensation is very much like hitting a real golf ball. Of course, the weight of a real golf ball makes a big difference when I go from hitting these practice balls and try out my swing on the range.Read more ›

Should have read the reviews a bit closer! I bought these so I could hit some balls in the back yard, as well as have some balls the kids can play with that won't damage the windows. While these are certainly distance-limited, I wonder how far they actually fly in comparison to a real ball. Not knowing the distance, I hit my very first ball (with an eight-iron) over my house. I have a pretty large yard and I am now limited to hitting wedges, chipping, and letting the kids play with them.

Bottom line is that these seem like good practice balls, you just need to have an appropriate amount of space if you want to take full swings. I'd guess they fly 2/3 the distance of a real ball.

I wanted practice balls that got decent distance, had at least some weight to them, but were completely safe for a few errant shots at the park. I mainly use them to work on my short game, but will occasionally hit a few with my driver to change things up. I tried Almost Golf practice balls, but felt that their shell is a bit too hard if you will be anywhere near cars or people. These are more dense and fly farther than comparable Tommy Armour foam practice balls that my buddy brought out with him the last time we went. I hit a car and have come closer than I would have liked to a passing jogger or two, but these are absolutely harmless. They have the feel of a very tiny dodgeball. You probably won't get a smile from a passing stranger under those circumstances, but at least no one (or their property) will get hurt. They have dimples and are moderately easy to find in the grass. Pink might be brighter and easier to see if available. Comes in a small nylon carrying bag. We tend to hit them all from a fixed spot and then try and chip them back to our bags wherever they fall.

I bought theses with several other soft foam and wiffle golf balls that were OK but these one's are great. I highly recommend buying these. I'ts hard to get a great feel for how your hitting the ball so the response isn't totally accurate. It is not completely like your hitting a golf ball but you can still tell bad shots from good shots.

These are quality practice balls and I give them top rating.

How far do they travel? My full 8 iron shots go about 50 yards vs 150 for real golf. The "ratio" to real golf is non-linear. What I mean is long clubs don't go much farther with the practice ball. I might be able to hit this ball 20% farther with a rescue club or driver. I can hit a real ball 60% farther with a driver than my 8 iron.

"Almost Golf" makes great practice balls too. They are much harder and go 70 yards off an 8 iron (40% farther). The "Almost Golf" balls are harder and fly farther and have better feel and chip better. The problem is, they go so far that you really need a lot of room. My yard is huge but a decent par 5 with Almost Golf needs to be 180 yards. With Callaway, only 125 yards is needed.

So, the Callaway balls work best for my yard. I have a full course that winds around the yard with holes ranging from 30 to 140 yards. We put sticks in the ground and you have to get the ball "in the leather" to be holed out. Great party game with friends and great for kids. No green fees, five hour rounds, etc. Just fun in the yard until it gets dark

The balls are very soft so you can hit the cars, your wife and kids can bean each other. No problem. We play "first one to hit the dog" wins.
