The text is aimed at non specialists and lacks authoritative references to current classical scholarship. The Iamblichus text is rather strange and uncritical and I suspect the translation does not help matters--I was trained to be a literature scholar. The book production does not achieve the level of Cambridge and Clarendon Press scholarly works, and I would rather pay the extra money for a first rate book. I will pursue my interest in Pythagoras through the Guthrie History of Greek Philosophy, V 1, and the new Cambridge History of Philosophy in Later Antiquity.
