Wow. Great DVD. Ian's looking great. It's so much fun to see these guys up there playing a mix of old and new stuff. The band sounds great and look like they're having a lot of fun, too. This is true rock and roll.

I am so inspired by this concert I have watched it 5 times in the last two weeks! The set list was dynamic and well paced which is a tough feat when you consider Ian has more than 300 songs in his catalog. Both Mott and solo well represented. Mick Ralphs played thoughout entire show. I thought he would only guest on a couple of songs. What a treat. Ian talks alot explaining some tunes and "war" stories. Really nice camera work. And the interview with Ian is sincere, revealing, & long. I haven't enjoyed a concert video this much in years Get it mate - brilliant!

As an old "Mott" fam, this was a great way to hear some of those old hits from back in the day! The stuff from the Rant band I am just getting to know, buut they all sound pretty good, also. A couple of Ian's solo songs (once bitten, twice shy, Cleveland rocks) are included as a great bonus.
I any drawback exists, it is Joe Elliott joining in on a couple of songs. He kinda walks on Ian's singing of All the Way from Memphis, but otherwise does a good job. Brian May playing on that song is great! Be sure to watch teh interview with Ian. Very informative!

Very fine, my complaints amount to quibbles.,

The set list is great, it's fun to see Ian Hunter back with Mick Ralphs. It's a well-balanced set list drawing from Mott the Hoople and Hunter's post-Hoople solo recordings. I have to take this back: the set list not just great, it's impossible to argue with it in any substantive form. Bravo!)
Hunter's voice is raspier than I remembered it, uh, THIRTY years ago, but I'm not going to complain about it. Mott has been on my radar screen since they were on "ABC's In Concert," a Friday night show where you watched on your TV and listed through your stereo FM radio. He's welcome to age, and he's aged well. So, those quibbles. "The Truth, The Whole Truth, Nothing But the Truth" is kind of the show's centerpiece. I don't have a problem with that, it's a great tune. But the mix during the first guitar solo, by Andy York, emphasizes the drums over the guitar. When Mick Ralphs does HIS solo on the tune, suddenly the guitar is given its proper emphasis. Second quibble: on "I Wish I Was Your Mother" (the best Bob Dylan tune Dylan never wrote), York tries to make his guitar sound like a mandolin. The two instruments aren't the same, and it's only a partial success: on the higher notes York does well with ultra-fast picking, but if you remember the Mott recording, during the chorus the mandolin went into a medium register - - this is missing from this recording. Watching York (me, for the first time), he seems very talented - - as someone who plays guitar more than mandolin, I'm surprised York couldn't make the leap the mandolin. BUT. THESE. ARE. QUIBBLES. This show is well recorded, it's a fine set, and I frankly have no idea why I bothered to register these quibbles in the context of what is really a fine DVD.

This is a must for anyone who loved Mott The Hoople and Ian's early solo albums. My buddies and I had those on the turntable so much in the early days that we wore the albums out. Ian is a superstar as far as we're concerned.

Ian's back. So am I.I won't review every song this time, nor write about me.About the sound and picture quality, I'm not that knowledgeable. The picture seems very clear at times and not so at others. I think this is done purposely, sought of like what Pearl Jam did with their dvd.The sound is great. In the past I've owned many bootleg tapes, some with very poor quality, so I think all these dvd concerts are fantastic. Including this one. There are a lot of different songs on this dvd than the last one, and no strings, of course.I loved Knees of my Heart. Ian re-tools Irene Wilde and it's great to hear a song you know slightly different. That's what makes a live performance special.Ian does The Truth,The Whole Truth... And I don't think I've ever heard this live before but I love this song and is the main reason I bought this dvd.Andy York really shows his skills here and through out the dvd. With good camera angles and close ups you get a good look at his playing.Fantastic!Ian also brings back Mick Ralphs for this one. He's looking a little old but gets off a few blistering leads himself, to show he can still play.A few more different songs Ian does are Roll Away The Stone, Cleveland Rocks and Standing In My Light. He also goes way back and breaks out The Journey.Awesome! Then for the finale he does All The Way... with special guests Brian May and Joe Elliot. That's alot of talent on the stage. Great show. Ian does the ballads. Ian rocks.Ian delivers.

almost 5 stars,
This review is from: Ian Hunter and the Rant Band - Just Another Night Live (DVD)
I've seen Ian everytime he's been in Cleveland since 1972.
That being said, this is perhaps his best live/DVD/VHS concert ever. Unless they unearth a video with Mick Ronson, this is it! Ian ain't about flash, smoke pots, and fire, his songs are the reason people go to see him. With a set that includes songs from LP 1 (R & R Queen/ Mott The Hoople) to his last studio LP (Dead Man Walking/Rant),he touches all bases. With a crack line-up which includes Andy York and MICK RALPHS!!, they tear up a slew of classics and obscure songs---obscure only if you're a newbie to his music Highlights--Dudes--Ian's joined onstage by his kids Tracie (what a Hottie) and Jesse Michael Picasso--ode to Ronson Roll Away the Stone--another appearence by Tracie Memphis--because Ian screws up and they restart the song in true Mott The Hoople fashion The only downer on this is the camera placement. Most everything is shot from viewer left/stage right---up and down to center stage. This is why it gets 4 stars. Good interview with Ian also, although a translator might be in order--lol---he's so British New LP on the way---hopefully by September

Ian Hunter is most known as singer for
Mott but his solo work is the most impressive to me. What songwriter has written so many great songs but ignored by critics & radio? nobody! Every album show his genius but mainstream will not catch on. Thank goodness his loyal fans still support him. I'm sorry to say I haven't seen Hunter live since 80's but he doesn't come to near New Orleans. I hope to afford to soon but until then this DVD is just awesome. Great rock.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DVD TO BE SET IN THE NTSC FORMAT AND BOY WAS THE WAIT WORTH IT. THIS SHOW HARKENS BACK TO THE DAYS WHEN MUSICIANS WERE OUT THERE TO ENTERTAIN. IAN HUNTERS VOICE IS THE ONLY REASON FOR THIS BEING 4 STARS INSTEAD OF 5. IAN'S THICK ENGLISH ACCENT SOMETIMES MAKES IT HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE WORDS TO HIS SONGS. THAT SAID, ALL THE OTHER PIECES ARE IN PLACE TO EQUAL ONE ROCKIN' CONCERT. HIS SLOWER SONGS LOOSE SOME OF THE FEELING BECAUSE OF HIS, SOMETIMES HARD TO UNDERSTAND, WORDS BUT IF IT'S ROCKIN' YOU WANT, THIS IS A GREAT SHOW............
