I picked up a used six string Ibanez GSR206 for $179. The ticket said used, but this thing was in mint condition. I brought it home and plugged it into my recording rig, and it just didn't sit into my mix right. Unless I completely killed the treble, the pickups picked up more string noise than notes. Worst of all, the low B string was flubby to the point of being unusable -- no clarity at all.

It doesn't matter how many strings you've got: If the low B doesn't sound good, you might as well just get a regular 4 string bass, and save yourself the hassle of maintaining a string you can't even use. It was immediately clear to me: I had brought home too much money, and too little guitar.

The next day, I took the GSR206 back to the shop. I re-evaluated my needs. I don't need a high C string, because I already have a guitar that covers that range. And I'd rather have 5 good strings than 6 cheap ones.

I took my time and tried out several, paying special attention to clarity on the low b string, and overall tone. Among those I tried were the mahogany SR505, and the ESP 406SM.

The Ibanez SR375M was the clear winner of the bunch. The low B string is actually usable - not only open, but as just a regular old string on a music instrument that works the way its supposed to. The sound is versatile and big - with a lot of opportunities to dial in exactly what you're looking for. It's amazingly light - 2 pounds lighter than my electric guitar, and the neck is very comfortable at only 45mm wide at the nut. You just won't believe how well, and how easy this thing plays until you try one out in person.

Awesome...
In spite of the fact that is refurbished, my luthier found the solution and I think that is a bass which I want to play during the rest of my life... I love ibanez because of its versatillity I feel good playing metal or reggae music for example.

If you want to get a great bass but you don't have enough money to spend for, don't think about, just do it.

Thanks to the muzic store, thanks amazon.

I bought it to replace my SR505 so, I wasn;t looking for much, but this axe is really great. Nice tone resonates well, good price I would have gotten one of these long ago and saved some $$$$$
