This book is intended for English-speaking students of paleoanthropology and all others interested in Stone Age prehistory. It was written with two fundamental, related goals in mind: 1)to produce a syntheses of our current understanding of the course of hominid adaptations throughout the Stone Age in a particularly well-defined and well studied region of southwestern Europe; and 2) to provide a counterweight to the preponderant French (particularly Perigord) bias in the presentation, in the United States and Britain, of the Paleolithic record. -- From the introduction
