I started taking Iberogast in August (it's now November). At that point I had been having terrible heartburn & reflux with nausea for a year. I had an upper-GI scope, and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. After diet & lifestyle changes failed to solve the problem, I was given 2 40mg Protonix (a proton pump inhibitor) daily, and was still having breakthrough symptoms that would wake me up in the middle of the night. Life was miserable and the GI specialist said "well, we're just going to say you have dyspepsia." And that was pretty much it, they had no more suggestions for me. After doing my own research on dyspepsia, I found several articles that mentioned Iberogast as a potential treatment. However, finding it was difficult, the mfr's website said "our database is out of date" when I tried to search for stores, but I did find it from one vendor on Amazon. They charged me $34 plus 6 for shipping. When it arrived, I turned the box upside-down and the price tag said $29.99. Hrmph. Shipping was not speedy at all (from "Feel Good"), though it had to cross customs as it was coming from Canada.

Two weeks after beginning with the product, I wasn't having much breakthrough reflux anymore, so I decided to go down to one Protonix a day. I kept on that plan for two months, until the last of the Protonix ran out. That was three weeks ago. I do have some reflux on occasion, but it's nowhere near the level when I was just taking two Protonix a day. And I can usually trace those incidents to poor diet and high stress days. To be fully honest, I have also lost 5 pounds through diet and exercise at the same time and taken measures to reduce my stress, so I'm obviously not a controlled case study for whether Iberogast alone can help. But I think as part of a lifestyle treatment plan, Iberogast has been my savior. I don't want to go through pregnancy taking a prescription medication, and now I don't have to.

In regards to using the product, I wouldn't put it into anything dairy. (The packaging suggests 'your favorite beverage' and mine is milk.) The first time you try it in water, you'll know why you don't want to attempt to add it to milk. When you add hot tap water to it, it's like sipping a nice herbal tea. The flavor disappears quite nicely into iced tea, and I find that I usually keep a pitcher on hand these days just for this purpose. It wasn't bad in cranberry juice. It's minty and herbally, but not bad at all when diluted properly. The bottle has a dropper top built-in, so you just tip it upside-down to dose, though sometimes you have to give it a little shake to get it started. One bottle should last you just about 4 weeks.

I find it hard to remember to take 3 times a day, so I've started keeping a second bottle at work just so I can remember to take it with lunch. Your memory may be better than mine. All in all, I'm just thrilled with Iberogast. So much for the specialists who had no advice for me -- this product has worked and I'm sending them a copy of this review so they can recommend it to their other patients.

I highly recommend Ibergast. At first, when my naturopath doctor recommended it, I was skeptical. How could herbs get rid of my terrible intestinal pain. I was having pain most of time with little relief no matter how I ate. The first time I took it, it started working within about 20 mins. I felt a knot in my intestines slowly dissipating. After taking it about 2 weeks I started getting all my energy back. I did have to learn when the best time to take it was. I now take about half of it before I eat and drink the other half with my meal. When I waited until after eating, my intestines were already in a massive knot. Starting before the meal really helps prevent that from happening. I can't recommend Ibergast enough. I've had irritable bowel for 50 years and this is the second thing that has worked. The first was elavil, but after being on that for 12 years I wanted to get off. I was really afraid I'd have to go back on the elavil. Elavil gives you a mild drugged effect. When your gastroenterologist tells you science doesn't understand chronic dyspepsia and he doesn't have any idea about remedies to help you (but pay my big bill anyway!), you have to do your own research, on MEDLINE and even Wikipedia. At least one study on MEDLINE suggests that this condition can be helped by the extremely versatile antidepressant, amitriptyline. As my first step, I had my GP prescribe it. I can't prove it, but since I have gotten better, I ascribe this to amitriptyline. But I wanted more relief, and Wikipedia said that Iberogast was backed up by many clinical studies in Europe. I am rather skeptical about folk remedies, but tried this. What's not to like? I have gotten better since taking it; it tastes fine in black or herb tea; there are no side effects; and they give you a generous portion for your money. I have re-ordered it.

UPDATE: almost a year later, I am still using this, although I need it less and less frequently all the time. I continue to admire the way it improves digestion reliably, gently, without side effects. We're overdue for a better pharmacological understanding of this product, and I would like to see it become more widely available.

I used Iberogast five years ago when I had a bad case of gastritis. So when I started having symptoms of gastritis again, I ordered the Iberogast. It gets things moving and the symptoms begin to disappear.

Iberogast is one of the few products that provide true relief of stomach and intestine cramps when taken. I've researched this product and even contacted the manufacturer in Germany about it. It is a combination of herbal products that includes chamomile and peppermint. Although it has a fairly bitter taste, 20 drops helped me a lot with gastric upsetness after a rich meal or whenever I have heartburn.

Iberogast is a great product. It has helped improve my mother digestion 100%. She is 91 years old. Five months ago, she developed bloating and stomach pain that unable her be comfortable. She blamed all types of food for her condition and stopped eating every thing she thought was making her stomach sick. Quickly she began loosing weight. Her weight dropped from 113 to 104 pounds in less than two weeks. A friend suggested we try Iberogast that had worked well for him. That was a great advise. At first we gave my mother 20 drops of Iberogast liquid after every meal. The results were immediately noticeable. The stomach pain and bloating went away same day. She has a good appetite now and she is putting back some weight. She has good health and is mentally active. Now my mother only takes 6 to 8 drops after every meal. I can assure Iberogast has worked well.

I did some research online and came to the conclusion that Iberogast was a product worth trying. After using the product according to the directions I still have not received the relief from my heartburn as I was hoping. It did, however, seem to reduce my stomache bloating a little and I will continue to use Iberogast until the bottle runs out. My gastrointestinal problems are many and perhaps the full effects of the product are still to come.

My daughter had post viral gastro paresis for almost 2 years after mono, but it is now gone . . .I promised if she ever got well I would post because I know how hopeless this condition can feel. She was literally wasting away . . .throwing up 4-5 times a day-I was so depressed I could hardly function after watching her suffer so long, we had been to 26 doctors, and everytime she started to think she was better, she would just get sick again. She had tons of complications. She couldn't take Reglan, or Erythromyacin. She has also cut all gluten out of her diet. Although she did not test positive for Celiac, the homeopath she saw (after 26 medical doctors) said she was "gluten intollerant". For several months I was having chronic tummy aches. Went to my GP and said it was gastritis and put me on different prescription antacids. They did not work. He referred me to the gastro specialist. After blood tests, endoscopy and and catscan, they concluded that nothing was serious but they felt I had functional dyspepsia which is very vague with no remedy. I was really surprised when the specialist recommended the Iberogast. I ran home and bought it immediately. I was desperate to try anything. Have to say it works. The taste is not the greatest but can be mixed with other drinks. If you drink in plain warm water, it tastes like a mild peppermint herbal tea. I highly recommend it.

Delivery was prompt. This product is a life saver. I don't go anywhere without it. It eliminates most of the pain caused from colon damage and not being able to digest foods.
