Biography

The rise to great success with most top DJs starts with a dedication born out of an obsession for music. For Markus Schulz, his story was no exception. Originally from Germany, Markus moved to the USA aged 13 and quickly become engrossed in the break-dancing scene of the time. Although a talented mover on the floor, a chance to dominate the decks at a breaks party he helped organize became the… Read more in Amazon's Markus Schulz Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A true Ibiza feel!!, November 1, 2006
By
This review is from: Ibiza 06 (Audio CD)
For anyone who hasn't heard of Markus Schulz, you're missing out on one the top Djs in the world! You've heard his amazing contributions to albums like Armin Van Buuren's State of trance 05 and Paul Oakenfolds Creamfields, but his full length albums are really something special. If you're looking for huge cheesy trance anthems this is not the album for you, but if you are looking for the most hypnotic deep trance, look no further! Both his full length mixed ablums, Miami '05 And Ibiza '06, have a feel unlike most trance cds. The use of actual bass instead of just the thudding bass drum gives a layer deepness that you just dont feel through other artists. Also his love of producing. He will find songs that he loves and rework them specifically for his mixes to give them a unique sound and quality. If you lke Armin Van Buuren, Solarstone, Above & beyond, then i promise you, you will love this cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Future, February 14, 2007
By
This review is from: Ibiza 06 (Audio CD)

Markus Schulz is truly a non-conformist. Usually, when you hear a normal progressive album, you'll hear slow, dark up-tempo and on most occasions, the same boring recycled and copied sound heard over and over similar to early-90's house records.

With this album, it's nothing like that. This album is so much fun to listen to! It's a different style of music compared to his most personal Coldharbour 2004 or Without You Near, much, much more upbeat and like I said, fun to listen to. I've listen to these records for months and months now and it's still jarring my mind to want more.

The first couple of records are what you would expect from Markus. Benya's introduction record "Mimas" exemplifies his undeniable dark style. From that, comes "Louder" from Jose Amnesia, who I think, along with guys like Elevation is a diamond in this industry. "Louder" reminds me of classic Ben Lost sets released a while back. Really unique Tokyo-inspired music. From there, great transition track from Alex Stealthy's remix of "Dusk Till Dawn" to Progresia's "The Shelter". Reminds you that even though one track is dark and moody and the other is ridiculously childish and fun to listen, they can mixed effortlessly regardless! So many records here I want to point out are so good, Nick Thompson's club-driven "Strategos", the really, really fast record "Yearzero", the masterpice Miami-Vice inspired "Addictive". The smooth Matt Adams dub remix of "Tech and Comp Parts". Holy god, so many good records in this album, easy put it.

What really impressed me about this album above all his other albums is his ability to expose pretty much the next generation of progressive-trance. I'm talking about the next gen of producers that will eventually take over this genre of trance over time. I truly applaud him for that being able to introduce us music from these new kids on the b. I am, however am a little disappointed he didn't add any of Elevation or Mike Shiver's newest records in this album, but despite that, this album has every style of trance you could ever want as far as listening and going crazy hopping around to something unique.. and fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, December 5, 2006
This review is from: Ibiza 06 (Audio CD)
Beautiful album. Balearic, Progressive Trance that flows so harmonically. Markus's 06 album is aeons ahead of his last release. Great track selection. Songs like People get lost, addictive , feel lonely and south-west saga are all MASSIVE tracks. The both cd's are equally great, just simply fantastic. 5 stars for this man, well done.
