A true Ibiza feel!!,
By
This review is from: Ibiza 06 (Audio CD)
For anyone who hasn't heard of Markus Schulz, you're missing out on one the top Djs in the world! You've heard his amazing contributions to albums like Armin Van Buuren's State of trance 05 and Paul Oakenfolds Creamfields, but his full length albums are really something special. If you're looking for huge cheesy trance anthems this is not the album for you, but if you are looking for the most hypnotic deep trance, look no further! Both his full length mixed ablums, Miami '05 And Ibiza '06, have a feel unlike most trance cds. The use of actual bass instead of just the thudding bass drum gives a layer deepness that you just dont feel through other artists. Also his love of producing. He will find songs that he loves and rework them specifically for his mixes to give them a unique sound and quality. If you lke Armin Van Buuren, Solarstone, Above & beyond, then i promise you, you will love this cd!

The Future,
By John Sparda (Rimini, Italy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ibiza 06 (Audio CD)
Markus Schulz is truly a non-conformist. Usually, when you hear a normal progressive album, you'll hear slow, dark up-tempo and on most occasions, the same boring recycled and copied sound heard over and over similar to early-90's house records. With this album, it's nothing like that. This album is so much fun to listen to! It's a different style of music compared to his most personal Coldharbour 2004 or Without You Near, much, much more upbeat and like I said, fun to listen to. I've listen to these records for months and months now and it's still jarring my mind to want more. The first couple of records are what you would expect from Markus. Benya's introduction record "Mimas" exemplifies his undeniable dark style. From that, comes "Louder" from Jose Amnesia, who I think, along with guys like Elevation is a diamond in this industry. "Louder" reminds me of classic Ben Lost sets released a while back. Really unique Tokyo-inspired music. From there, great transition track from Alex Stealthy's remix of "Dusk Till Dawn" to Progresia's "The Shelter". Reminds you that even though one track is dark and moody and the other is ridiculously childish and fun to listen, they can mixed effortlessly regardless! So many records here I want to point out are so good, Nick Thompson's club-driven "Strategos", the really, really fast record "Yearzero", the masterpice Miami-Vice inspired "Addictive". The smooth Matt Adams dub remix of "Tech and Comp Parts". Holy god, so many good records in this album, easy put it. What really impressed me about this album above all his other albums is his ability to expose pretty much the next generation of progressive-trance. I'm talking about the next gen of producers that will eventually take over this genre of trance over time. I truly applaud him for that being able to introduce us music from these new kids on the b. I am, however am a little disappointed he didn't add any of Elevation or Mike Shiver's newest records in this album, but despite that, this album has every style of trance you could ever want as far as listening and going crazy hopping around to something unique.. and fun!

Beautiful album. Balearic, Progressive Trance that flows so harmonically. Markus's 06 album is aeons ahead of his last release. Great track selection. Songs like People get lost, addictive , feel lonely and south-west saga are all MASSIVE tracks. The both cd's are equally great, just simply fantastic. 5 stars for this man, well done.

The new mix by Markus Schulz consists of that trance sound that is perfect for summer nights, in the tradition of the past two mixes from Tiesto, especially "ISOS 5." "Ibiza '06" opens the mix with "People Get Lost" by Ohmna, which definately sets the mood of an upbeat, high energy album. The strings that open the set are amazing and addicting. When the blazing trance anthem of Jose Amnesia's "Louder" blares through the speakers early on Disc One, you know what you are getting yourself into. "Louder" is one of the best trance tracks that I have heard all year on a mix, and believe me, I have several mixes. The track is full of energy and has that typical Schulz sound that he has made popular over the years. Some of the other worthy songs on Disc One include "Addictive" by Niklas Harding & Funabashi, Benz & MD's "Turning the Curve," the hypnotic and banging "Strategos" by Nick Thompson, and "Technology & Computer Parts" by 4Mal & Matthew Adams. On to Disc Two. Disc Two isn't quite as addicting as Disc One, but certainly opens right where Disc One left off- with that summer trance sound. It opens with Ormatie's "Glassow," which is a decent upbeat and catchy trance track. Other highlights on Disc Two are YearZero" by Andy Moor and Orkidea, Kenneth Thomas' "Achmes Razor," Nick Thompson's "Once Upon a Time", and the Funabashi remix of Markus Schulz's "First Time." Overall, the mix was pretty enjoyable. Most of the mixing was good, but sort of noticable and not as tight as some other DJ's, but I can look past that and see the journey Schulz puts his listeners through. Last year's "Miami '05" by Schulz was an amazing set of tracks and mixed superbly. It also had a bit more variance across genres- blending trance with electronica and even some progressive. In fact, even though it did have some of the same tracks as Armin van Buuren's "State of Trance 2005," I found Schulz's mix to be more superior and better mixed. "Ibiza '06" seems to stick more to a similar sound than "Miami '05," but does sum up what Ibiza is all about. To me, Disc One was more energetic and had more high points in the mix, but Disc Two isn't too bad either, just had a few mediocre filler tracks. Those who appreciate good trance and "Miami '05," this is definately for you.

This 2CD progressive trance compilation is brilliant. I have been a Markus Schulz fan for years now and, like others, was a little bit disappointed with some recent offerings. But this compilation is an outstanding return to form.
The mixing is extremely well done, and the swirling trance / hypnotic vocals really do take you to another level. There are a couple of minor mixing flaws (a tiny tiny bit obvious on the transitions) but the rest is superb. Song selection is fantastic, this song is a great party starter, or a fun way to energize your iPod at the gym. Standout tracks on CD1 are Ohmna "People Get Lost" & Jose Amnesia Feat. Jennifer Rene "Louder" while CD2's Markus Schulz ft. Anita Kelsey "First Time" (Funabashi Remix) is even better than the original we saw last year. If you liked the Coldharbour Sessions 2CD set from '04, this album is, in my opinion, slightly better - making this my favourite Markus Schulz release.

Markus Schulz has been a favorite DJ of mine since two and a half years ago when I met him on a plane ride to Ibiza. His name struck me as being familiar from Armin Van Buurens Album "Boundries of Imagination" ("You Wont See Me Cry" which was an old favorite of mine), and Paul Oakenfield's Creamfields...an Album that I had bought only a few weeks earlier. Markus asked if I would come to his show that Tuesday. It just so happened that he was opening up for Tiesto that night so it was a no brainer. His music at that show floored me. His deep and consistent bass lines makes his music selection something to be commended. He creates the kind of Trance that literally makes you want to get up and move. Its the kind of Trance that for years I was trying to specify. Since that moment in Ibiza I have made it my goal to follow his music. He never fails to impress me. Each one of his albums has obviously grown and matured from his last (Ibiza '06 is a wonderful example of this), and I am hoping that he continues to create such wonderful soundscapes for many years to come. Thank you Markus Schulz for such great talent. He is a innovative DJ who keeps his music rare and full of depth, music that should define what great Trance is. I highly recommend this CD.

one of the best trance compilations of 2006/2007,
This review is from: Ibiza 06 (Audio CD)
markus schulz has come up with an amazing collection of original trance music. the tracks on this album are excellent, and true, nothing very hard, but smooth, melodic and very uplifting trance. this cd surpasses his miami '05 mix which i thought was great too. songs like kiksu, yearzero, louder, mimas, sunshift are highlights.

Marcus Schulz takes you on a great ride in this CD. It's a little more mellow than I would like but still a great CD. I personally liked Miami 05 a little better but would still recommend buying this one.

Best Trance Mix,
By
This review is from: Ibiza 06 (Audio CD)
This is one of the best trance mixes I've ever heard. At least half of the trance mixes I own sound the same. Not this one! Markus Schulz did his homework picking his song selections. There is not a boring, bland, or a song that sounds alike on either disc. This is an amazing feat, esp. since most of the tracks are all instrumental. If you are a trance fan, this CD has to be part of your collection.

Best Progressive Trance Album EVER,
By Quik Silver (Brookfield, ct) - See all my reviews

I purchased this album last summer because I was just starting to listen to Schulz's global dj broadcast sessions for the first time, and liked what i was hearing. Being a trance/progressive house fan for years, I can say that this is the most amazing trance compilation I've ever heard. I'd even go so far as to say that this album outdoes any of Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise albums. The whole album flows flawlessly with incredible low roaring bass that helps make every track a hit (just turn up the bass for songs like "People get lost", and "collision" to see what I mean). Its hard-driven, uplifting tracks such as "Mimas", "Louder", "Addictive", "Strategos", "The Fusion", "Year Zero", "Kiksu", and "Where It All Begun" which make Ibiza 06 an instant classic. Ibiza 06 is the sound of the summer. Enough said. BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!
