3.0 out of 5 stars Quite a few atypical flavors, but can't read the page numbers!, September 26, 2010

This review is from: Ice Cream Galore (Paperback)
I would have given this cook book a four star rating, but for the fact that the page numbers are extremely difficult to read. While the book makes for a good browse, if you use the index to find a particular recipe, then can't find the page, well, that's very frustrating!

I am finding that I am using this cook book for ideas, rather than actual recipes. This is because I really like the uncooked sweet cream bases in the Ben and Jerry's book Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book, and because I don't want to put an egg white into my sorbets, (which all Barty's sorbet recipes call for). There are many interesting ingredients and ingredient combinations that have given me ideas for my own creations. Some examples of what I consider interesting combinations are: Buttermilk and lemon verbena, cosmopolitan (cranberry and grapefruit juices), blueberry and ricotta, strawberry and black pepper, peach and rosemary. Some unusual flavors are: Earl Grey, lavender, litchi, and honeycomb. There are savory ice creams also: Horseradish ice cream (to add to tomato soup), goat cheese and basil, feta cheese and black olives (for topping salmon). And there are a few soy milk ice creams and several with liquor, too. There are 120 recipes in this book and a majority of them are not "usual" ice cream flavors.

So if you enjoy using your ice cream maker, this is an interesting cookbook to round out your ice cream recipe repertoire. And maybe you've got great eye sight and won't have trouble with the page numbers....I DO want to use this cook book, so I'm going to take a black pen and renumber the pages......
