4.0 out of 5 stars John Brim Comes Back From Obscurity, January 28, 2002
By
This review is from: Ice Cream Man (Audio CD)
John Brim began playing music as a teenager while growing up in Kentucky. he moved to Chicago in 1945 and over the next two decades he played with John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson, Eddie Boyd, Muddy Waters, Jimmy reed and others. When the Blues declined in the 1960's he faded out of the limelight.

This album shows that John Brim can still front a band with style. Backed by top Blues players like Bob Margolin on guitar and the amazing Jerry Portnoy on harmonica, Brim sings with panache, exhibiting that over the intervening years, he's kept up his chops. I'd even recommend that you get yourself a recording of "Ice Cream Man" from the 1950's and compare it to this later version. Very nice indeed.
