Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Cyanide & Happiness is back!

You hold in your grubby mitts the second collection from the hit online comic that was created by a quartet of depraved, inappropriate twentysomethings from all four corners of the world, and which has been compared to Family Circus by both the seeing and mentally impaired communities.

Bigger, bolder, and badder than ever before, this book includes 120 hilarious, silly, and vile classics, as well as 30 brand-new strips that are guaranteed to have you in stitches. Though hopefully not literally. And for your inner child, we've included some Interactivities to keep you entertained until the day you die, or for thirty minutes, whichever comes first.

Complete with a foreword from Randall Munroe (author of XKCD), Ice Cream & Sadness is the book that will resolve, once and for all, the answer to the eternal question: What do I get Grandma for Christmas?

About the Author

Kris is from Fort Bridger, Wyoming. He began drawing Cyanide & Happiness when he was 16 years old to avoid neurologically damaging boredom. He shared his strips with the other three dudes and together they developed Cyanide & Happiness into what it is today. Rob is from Dallas, Texas. He's the best kisser of the four, and he in addition to writing/drawing for Cyanide & Happiness, he also produces animated shorts at Explosm.net. Matt is a t-shirt aficionado and sideburn enthusiast living in San Diego, California. He designed Explosm from the ground up. His vast knowledge of the graphic arts lends itself to the rich and deeply detailed stick figures he draws for Cyanide & Happiness. Dave is from Ireland, so he has a stupid accent and likes to drink copious amounts of beer. In addition to drawing for Cyanide & Happiness, he also has a keen interest in animation and animated film, as well as writing bad music and passing judgement on other bad music. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Lots of dark and twisted humor, but overall, great to have in book form.

Just as expected, another great, funny compilation of comics from the guys over at Cyanide & Happiness.
Extra, book-exclusive comics as well. Definitely a must for anyone who considers themselves a fan of these guys.

I've got both books, and they ROCK. Plus they are cheap. A no brainer really.

Great book, the cartoons selected are just right. The "interactivites for slow adults" in the back are fantastic as well providing just as much of a laugh as the cartoons themselves.

ICE CREAM & SADNESS is the 2nd book collection of the online comic, "Cyanide and Happiness." For those unfamiliar, "Cyanide and Happiness" is an online comic with a cynical and dark sense of humor that many would find offensive. Some of the "topics" of humor in ICE CREAM & SADNESS include self-mutilation, pedophilia, public urination, murder, and sexual deviancy. For instance, in one strip in the book a little boy is crying and a man asks him if Santa brought him everything for Christmas. The boy says he asked Santa to bring his daddy back for Christmas. The man tells him he's sorry and that Santa can't do everything. The boy tells him, no Santa did what he asked and the last panel shows the pair looking at a rotting corpse under a Christmas tree. ICE CREAM & SADNESS is a book that won't appeal to everyone. The humor is disturbing, twisted, often juvenile, and sometimes disgusting. Yet, there are a few strips in the book with a larger appeal that aren't as disturbing. Out of all the strips in the book, about a third of them I really enjoyed, a third I found somewhat funny, and a third that were just too disturbing to be funny. If you thought the movie THE HANGOVER was funny, you will probably love ICE CREAM & SADNESS, but if you saw that movie and only found a few moments funny that's probably how you'll feel about this book.
