Book Description

May 1, 1999
Ice Cream for All Seasons features over 125 unique and flavorful recipes that span the seasons. Finally, there is an ice cream recipe cookbook that ventures beyond plain old vanilla, peach sherbet, and all of their traditional flavor companions. The authors, armed with new electric ice cream makers and a love of all things culinary, set out to show readers how to enjoy ice cream all year long. Using fresh seasonal ingredients and loads of imagination, the duo masterminded over 125 truly unique and seasonal frozen treat recipes. They also included recipes for those time honored classics such as Pistachio, Rocky Road, Rum Raisin, etc. The recipes are quick, easy, and inexpensive to make and are accompanied by pages of mouthwatering photos. The book also features a detailed introduction section with advice and ideas about making ice cream as well as lots of fun serving suggestions. Differing from other cookbooks, Ice Cream for All Seasons focuses on new and inspiring flavor combinations. A sampling from the seasons includes: Tiramisu Ice Cream, Honey Grapefruit Ice, Sunset Gelato, Cannoli Ice Cream, Egg Nog Ice Cream, Watermelon Sorbet, Kiwi Delight Sherbet, Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream, and Raspberry Mascarpone Ice Cream.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Native New Orleanian Suzy Gardner is an ice cream scientist . . .who wouldn't welcome a not-so-traditional Egg Nog Ice Cream and a twist on a favorite Italian dessert, Tiramisu Ice Cream." -- Julia Kamysz Lane, Gambit Weekly in New Orleans

"What an exciting book! Deb and Suzy have taken the timeless art of ice cream making and made it a 'summer breeze.'" Marilyn Taylor, author of "Muffin Madness" -- Marilyn Taylor, author of "Muffin Madness"

"You are sure to find a new favorite among the 100 recipes for ice creams, sorbets, ices, gelatos, and sherbets . . . The well laid out Table of Contents lets you easily peruse the recipe offerings, many of them unique. Cappuccino Gelato calls to me - and who could resist the temptation to try Triple Chocolate Overload Ice Cream? . . . dark and creamy, smooth and velvety, surely just the thing to "peg out" my chocolate meter!! . . . Ice Cream for All Seasons gives us plenty of reasons to keep the ice cream freezer crankin' year round!" -- Jackie Baer, Book Reviewer for iVillage.com

From the Author

For us, the kitchen is a place to escape to; it is a place for creativity, adventure, and renewal. We strive for quick and enjoyable ways to work with the freshest seasonal ingredients we can find. Combining that spirit with a love for sweets (and a new ice cream maker!), our adventure began. We were inspired to create a cookbook featuring unique, yet easy to make, frozen goodies prepared in an electric ice cream maker. For this writing, we chose a theme that carries through all seasons enabling you to take advantage of fresh seasonal ingredients. Now you can enjoy ice cream all year long!

The process of making ice cream is quite simple; it requires only a few basic ingredients and takes very little time. The recipes in this book are made with a 1 1/2 quart electric ice cream maker using items that are widely available. There is no special talent required to produce ice cream, and the results are desserts to be proud of. We hope you are inspired to enjoy the traditional recipes as well as seek to create what has yet to be created.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ice Cream Isn't Just for Summer Anymore!, December 29, 1999
This review is from: Ice Cream for All Seasons (Paperback)
Ice Cream for All Seasons will definitely be on my shopping list this holiday season. It contains wonderful, simple recipes for everyone's favorite frozen treat. With a few nuts, fruits, sugar, a variety of milk products, you can create memorable, tasty treats to match anyone's palate. The book contains colorful pictures, and is divided by seasons. It walks one through the year to use the bounty of fruits and foods available for each part of the year. I tried the cranberry sorbet and it will become a regular treat for my family. Ice Cream for All Seasons makes a great accompaniment for an ice cream freezer as a fun, usable wedding or birthday gift.

2.0 out of 5 stars Failed potential, December 26, 2001

This review is from: Ice Cream for All Seasons (Paperback)
This book offers a variety of ice cream recipes. The authors include many favorites for ice cream, sherbets, and sorbets. The color photos are a plus. The book groups recipes by season.
There is one major drawback which prevents me from recommending this book. Recipes call for uncooked eggs. Many call for 3 or more eggs or egg yolks. Salmonella is a real concern, especially for the young, elderly, and immune impaired individuals. The authors do not mention this potential hazard. They should offer a cooked egg alternative for those who are concerned.
I received this book and an ice cream maker as gifts. I plan to make the basic vanilla and chocolate cooked ice cream recipes included in the ice cream maker's instruction booklet, and use this book for ideas on adding ingredients to create flavored ice creams.
