5.0 out of 5 stars Tons of Fun., November 15, 2010
By
John Doe (Somewhere in New Jersey) - See all my reviews
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ice Hockey (Video Game)
Ice Hockey is a lot of fun to play and is a classic of NES games. I remember two biggest things about it back then: icing was a frequent happenstance, and playing as a goalie was extremely challenging. There is no way to do it automatically, so that made the game a lot of fun. The Speed 5 level is really tough as nails as well, and it brings the fun factor higher because the games are so close. The scoring chances are hard to come by; eventually, winning the game is very memorable due to its great ending. Another part I love about the game is the Zamboni machines, and they are cute to look at. All in all, Ice Hockey is a very memorable NES game and remains one of the great ones today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Four Stars - One of the better NES Sports titles, January 8, 2012
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ice Hockey (Video Game)
One of Nintendo's better early sports titles, Nintendo released "Ice Hockey" as a Famicom Disk System title and on the NES. Nintendo released "Ice Hockey" in 1988. Nintendo released several different sports titles for the NES early on in its life cycle, including tennis, golf, slalom skiing, and volleyball. The NES versions of TENNIS and BASEBALL are just dreadful.

Of the early NES sports titles, without a doubt ICE HOCKEY has aged the best - the game play is fun, simply, and addicting with multiplayer support.

There are four players on each team, and you can choose three body types. Skinny (fast but not able to hold on to the puck as well), Medium (cross between heavy and skinny in regards to speed and holding on the puck), and Heavy, which are slow but are able to hold on to the puck without a problem.

Originally Nintendo released the game as Famicom Disk System title in Japan with a different team line up. For the Japan release, the line featured was Japan, the United States (USA), Czechoslovakia (TCH), Canada (CAN), Poland (POL), and the Soviet Union (URS). For the US release, Nintendo replaced Japan, strangely enough, with Sweden.

Like most sports titles, the game is much more fun as a multiplayer experience. The only other hockey game in the same league as this is Konami's BLADES OF STEEL.

Being an NES game, the game play is not as indepth as later games covering the sport. Although there is some element of strategy, generally the game is just a simple study of men on ice.

The video game website IGN rated this title as the 100th greatest game on their top 100 NES games of all time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Hockey Game, March 2, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ice Hockey (Video Game)
This is a fun hockey game. It's Nintendo's 8-bit version of classic fun. So, your playing a hockey game on a 8-bit system. The graphics are not great. It's much better than Atari, but dont expect anything compared to todays game consoles.

You get to compete in one on one, one vs computer, and a world tour. The fun factor is when you creat your team, you can pick the size of your players. The bigger they are the slower they move! And its funny seeing a speeding skinny player slam in to a fat player. But the game is fast until Nintendo kicks in the slow motion act do to a poor processing chip.

Classic game but has ABSOLUTELY nothing on "Blaze of Steel" for Nintendo. Best Hockey game for the Ninteno 8-bit
