The Singles Made Me Buy It!,
By
This review is from: Ice Man (Audio CD)
I own the original vinyl singles, all two of them. Ice Man and Whisper Her Name Maria Laine. Great singles that were sadly overlooked from the beginning. The rest of the material on this disc is not as uplifting. I really did not care for the rest of it at all! As the title suggests, the singles made me buy it. If only I had known. Sorry chaps, but, this is probably why you did not make it.

Great talent and playing, but too many demo tracks...,
This review is from: Ice Man (Audio CD)
I was pleasantly surprised to see such an extensive offering of tunes from the band which recorded the oft-comped "Ice Man," available here in both studio and live form. The "blued eyed soul" approach, to me, always produced the best stylings of the beat/freakbeat/mod era. This approach is evident in several places here, for example, their cover of Darrell Banks "Open the Door to Your Heart" (incorrectly classified by the BBC announcer as "an original."). But, how can 13 of 19 tracks on any full-length CD be BONUS tracks? Most of these songs are one-off live recordings or demos, and the quality of what is laid down here is much too good for these songs not to have had full studio treatment. erego, I dock it one star.

This review is from: Ice Man (Audio CD)
Hello Music Lovers. I first heard the song "Ice Man" by Ice on the amazingly brilliant Trip compilation put together by St. Ettiene and I really fell in love with the song and others that I had never heard before. So I did a search on Amazon for Ice and !!VIOLA!! there was their one and only cd available on the Angel Air label. I immediately ordered this cd and upon recieving it (very promptly I might add from Import Cds)I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and emotion of the songs. How could this band (and so many others especially on the Rev-Ola and Rpm etc labels)be so obscure, lost and forgotten? The only way I could describe the music on this cd would be....think Jack Bruce's vocals set to the music of Traffic/Procol Harum. Some of the song are poppy and others are more Brit soulful. A real gem and highly recommended. Plus the song "Ice Man" is one of the greatest songs that you've never heard!
