5.0 out of 5 stars Great!
Great collection of tracks from the career of Ice-T, rap's most literate and meaningful artist. The tracks are in chronological order and accompanied by a booklet with notes from Ice-T himself on each track and the album it came from. A thoughtfully-produced gift for his fans and a terrific introduction to newcomers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original Hits from the Original Gangster, August 14, 2000

It's hard to believe that no one thought of doing an Ice T retrospective before but it's here and worth your time. These are the original songs. 16 songs-72 minutes with song-by-song notes and a brief look at his albums wwritten by Ice T, himself. This covers the era 1987-1996, with the last track being a new song. The words have staying power because T raps about what he believes in. And the music cuts hard to back up his boasts and opinions. Ice T is a West Coast Rap legend who put that sound on the map. These tracks tell the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars At long last !!! The OG's Greatest Hits !!!!!!!!!, August 8, 2000

What can I say ,Ice T is one of the all-time greats in the rap game ,and this greatest hits retrospective is long overdue !! From early classic hits like '6 N Tha Morning' ,to genre-making cuts like 'OG' ,right up until more recent stuff,Ice shows why he is still around making hits (& headlines) today ,unlike many of his contemporaries who haven't had the staying power that he has. The compilation also includes songs from movie soundtracks, viz. 'New Jack Hustla' from the movie 'New Jack City' and the popular 'Colors' from the movie of the same name. I would definitely recommend this cd to anyone ; this will be a great listen for all Ice T / Hip-Hop fans out there ,and for the un-itiated it would be a cool introduction to one of LA's finest ! Go buy it now !!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The O.G. collection., October 29, 2003

It's almost as dope as 16 tracks of "Ice-T" could be. Everything here is good, and I only miss a few songs. It would be nice to have "Drama" on here, as well as "Ziplock", but thank God it has "Colors", from the movie of the same name. That is truly one of the very first "gangsta" raps. He could have thrown on a track from "Body Count", lord knows "Cop Killer" would have sold some more copies of this, but I can see why he didn't. Overall this is a great collection from the pimp himself, and if you don't get it, you better have "O.G. Original Gangster".

5.0 out of 5 stars Ice-T's greatest hits. Should I have to say anything more?, January 10, 2002

To put it simply, Ice-T is the best MC that ever lived. To most he will always be rembered as one of the most controversial figures in music history. If you think you are a true hardcore rap fan then The Evidence is ESSENTIAL to your collection. It has all his original hits, such as "6 N The Mornin'", "Colors", "New Jack Hustler", "OG Original Gangster", the list goes on and on. My only querie in an otherwise stellar album is that Ice should have included some of his other hits, "Mind Over Matter", "Iceberg", "Lethal Weapon", "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Infamous" are some that immediately spring to mind, but other than that this greatest hits album is essentialy flawless. I recommend you buy this album whether you like hip hop or not, just to see the best of a truly remarkable artist. This is a very impressive album and one of the most important rap albums ever. Cop it now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars All Of The OG's Best In One Place, July 1, 2005
This review is from: Ice-T - Greatest Hits: The Evidence (Audio CD)
Ice-T is known as the first true "gangster rap" artist. He earned this title not by using excessive violent and vulgar language, but because he told true stories about the life of people in the streets. Tales of husters, pimps, gangsters and prisoners are all told, as well as a few true stories from Ice-T's own life. Every song on this compilation is a classic. If you want to hear real rap music and not crunk pop garbage such as Lil John and Chingy, go to the nearest record store and purchase this collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ice is Nice, July 6, 2007
This review is from: Ice-T - Greatest Hits: The Evidence (Audio CD)
Good collection of Ice-Ts raps. Ice-T is kinda different from most rappers in that he doesn't rely on the beat and the flow so much. There's not so much instrumentation in his stuff, just a drum usually. Ice T relies on storytelling. His delivery is rough, but that works for his stuff. He conveys the no-nonsense business attitude [and sometimes teh menace] of the streets. Contrary to so many critics of rap, Ice doesn't do a lot of glamorizing. He's just gritty realism. Here's some good raps:

6 in the Morning

I'm YOur Pusher

High Rollers

Original Gangster

Colors - tune from the movie

I Ain't New to This

The Tower - song about going to prison and the scary life inside. Great line: "who's got the power, the whites, the blacks, or just the gun tower." Makes a listener really want to NOT go to prison.

Money, Power, Women - starts with Al Pacino's quote from Scarface. Cool.

Looking at my list, it's pretty long. I think I have to say this album is a strong 4 stars, almost 5. If I were more of a serious rap fan, maybe I'd feel it was a 5. Whatever, this a solid CD with serious rap, good storytelling.

This is the music that made ice-t. with all the hype about the body count stuff everybody forgot about the great rap albums that made ice-t the superstar that he is , and this cd has the best of his early works. If you like rap you have to own this cd. I grew up listening to this it is still great today. I think this is the best collection of ice-t out there. Every rap fan should have this one.
