4.0 out of 5 stars Do you want Hardcore!!
Sex, Violence, drugs, violence, hopefulness & uplifting, & did i mention violence? All of these are included in Ice-T's 3rd album "The Iceburg/Freedom of Speech". This was an album dropped when Ice and others were fighting for the right to say what they want to say on wax(2 Live, NWA, others) & the PMRC was hot on the tails of anyone who dared to do so. First off, this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Freedom of Speech
For me Ice-T is one of the best rappers ever and I've spent long hours listening to his hardcore gangster rap. Kind of odd for a middle-aged white guy but what can I say? His in your face, pro-freedom of speech attitude is one that I hold myself. He is one of the founding fathers of gangster rap and one of it's most innovative lyricists. I've seen Ice-T do his rap act...

First off, this is not an album for the faint at heart. But if your okay with that this is actually a pretty tight album. The into is crazy as h--- for real. It then goes into a barrage of heat(Iceburg, Lethal Weapon, Black-N-Decker, Title track, Word is Bond)) all the way up to the end. In all honestly there really isn't a bad track on this disc..well maybe the party track was too much for me(even though I was dancing to this sh-t back in the days). It is truly one of Ice's best disc(probably a cool 3rd all in all, OG being the best & Power being the 2nd best). He was political, pimpish, & gangsta as a muthaf---a on this one. Well worth at least a listen if not a cop(buying for you new school wankstas!!) You decide..but don't let ya moms hear it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ice T's most thought provoking effort, July 19, 2001
This review is from: The Iceberg/Freedom Of Speech...Just Watch What You Say (Audio CD)
Quite possibly Ice T's best effort ever. This CD deals more with censorship and other issues that have been the bane of many artists of late. The opening track with Jello Biaffra (Dead Kennedy's frontman) is a frightning look into the future of a country that has been placed under marshall law and must now obey the governments every order without question. Most of the songs here are of a much darker nature. Freedom of Speech.. Just watch what you say is an obvious lashout at the groups that feel freedom of speech should be regulated and meet the approval of desiganted groups (I.E. PMRC). Many artists have had problems with said groups due to what was felt to be offensive material, just ask Megadeth. Peel their caps back deals with gangwar and retribution. Many of the topics held within are not nice and pretty but they are topics of real life. The death and destruction is something that not everyone can relate to, I for one have not witnessed first hand many of the gang related happenings. They are real life for many people though The rhymes and beats are super tight. Notable tracks are Peel Their Caps Back, My Word is Bond and the title track. Give this one a listen. Well worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great old-school album, April 14, 2001
This review is from: The Iceberg/Freedom Of Speech...Just Watch What You Say (Audio CD)
This album may not be a "classic" 5-star album, but it brings back memories with every listen, and that alone is worthy of the 5-star rating.
Every track is great, but the stand-out is the party track (track 11 I believe). I, personally, still remember kickin back on the porch and bumpin that track way back in the day.
Even the skit on the album is worth more than one listen.
If you love old-school hip-hop and dont have this album in your collection, buy it now.

This review is from: The Iceberg/Freedom Of Speech...Just Watch What You Say (Audio CD)
Ice-T's third album and one of the best. He lays it all out in this cd with a mix of gangster tales to political views about corrupt governments, the drug trade and censorship of knowledge. As always, the beats are an awesome backdrop for his vocals, which are brilliantly worded and rapped out in his unique style. Don't miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST ICE-T EVER!, March 5, 2007
I own it, it is one of, if not THE BEST ICE-T ALBUM. This album started his politcal spread into white sub-urbia. He combined Heavy Metal rock with rap and was way ahead of his time with this album. I mean the subjects he talks about here directly relate to 9-11 and the old paranoid attitude of most americans apathy. WARNING!! WARNING!! Not for the nieve hip hop boys and girls. I reccomend this for any music historian.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Gansta Hip-Hop, February 3, 2006
This review is from: The Iceberg/Freedom Of Speech...Just Watch What You Say (Audio CD)
Even though today Ice-T has pretty much left the music bizz, and is doing TV and Movies, lets not forget what he contributed to the Hip-Hip community back in the day. Ice-T might have been one of the first ganster artist (his first release Ryhme Pays was released a year before NWA's Straight Outta Compton. Out of all his releases this might be his best effort. Sure there are some filler tracks here, yet the other songs are so good and powerful, that they make up for the bad songs on this. You played yourself and The Peel their caps back are my personal favorites on this, and anyone looking for great Ganasta rap, should ditch thier 50 Cent CD's and pick this one up. Even though Ice-T has made it into the mainstream, I dont believe he sold out. He started out back in the day as a nobody, and as he got older he made some career moves that would get him into Movies and TV. You can't be making Ganster Material forever, as it just wouldnt sound right for 40+ yr old man to be rapping about guns and pimping (would it) He does, however still do some musical work, and his love for hardcore and Metal Music still show as he did a guest appearence on Six Feet Unders "True Carnage" in 2001. Enjoy this piece of hip-hop History.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Gangsta Political Album, August 4, 2005
This review is from: The Iceberg/Freedom Of Speech...Just Watch What You Say (Audio CD)
This is the album that made me love Ice T as a rapper. Like PE this album has political agendas along with Ice T's gangsta story telling. The Intro features vocals from the lead singer of the Dead Kennedys which is a cool collabaration. There's even a rock song that predates Ice's Body Count days. Favorites include Iceberg, Lethal Weapon, You Played Yourself, Peel Their Caps Back, Girl Tried to Kill Me, This One's for Me, Hunted Child, and Freedom of Speech. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Lethal Weapon's my......Rhyme, April 29, 2003
This review is from: The Iceberg/Freedom Of Speech...Just Watch What You Say (Audio CD)
Yo yo. Iceburg is as fresh and crisp here as the lettuce that bears his name. Ice-T and da rhyme sydicate be all up in here, and their word is bond.

The album starts of the same way as Black Sabbath's first album with the opening riff and thunderstorm, while a haunted church bell tolls for thee in the distance. It ain't long before Evil E is cutting crossfades and the MC of MC's be busting out the dope fly rhymes.

Afrika Islam and Donald D be in da house too with rhymes and rap that takes no smack. Peeling caps back, sexual adultrous escapades, and a thumbed nose to 1989's notorious PMRC.

The freshest word you ever heard. Iceburg.
