Because some of Amazon's listing descriptions for Icebreaker items have very few details about the products, making it difficult for the customer to make an informed purchasing decision if he/she is unfamiliar with this brand of clothing, below I'll type some information and personal impressions about Icebreaker clothing.

Note that my review is quite long and usually only the first half of it is shown on this page. If this happens on your screen and you wish to read the second half, all you have to do is press the "read more" button at the bottom of the review and Amazon will show you the rest of it. :-)

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Icebreaker's marino wool items are generally made well, last a long time, are easy to care for, feel fantastic on the skin, are "natural", don't get smelly easily like polarfleece does, let the skin breathe, etc.

Many of my Icebreaker items have been worn and washed several hundred times and are still holding up much better than would be expected.

I am a BIG fan of this company's products. For my overall experience of them from around 2000-2010, I would give them a solid "5 stars"!

However, I regret to say that my opinion of the items I have bought from Icebreaker in 2012 is not as high. In the last 2 weeks (late 2012), I have bought 7 items from them and I decided to return all of them because they aren't as well-cut as the very "same" items that I bought in the 2000s (which I still have and wear, so I can make like-for-like comparisons easily).

Based solely on my 2012 experience of Icebreaker products, I would give them 3 stars, "it's ok".

amazingly comfortable alone or under anything, even if temps get a bit warmer by afternoon. just like they say, they actually do not stink after sweating em up for a few days. I love wearing these.

Icebreaker makes the best base layers out there. I know they are a bit pricey, but so comfy and best of all they keep you warm without over heating you. These can also be worn as leggings with boots and a sweater after a day on the slopes.

I bought these leggings to wear under my pants on a recent trip to Iceland. I loved them, but here are a few observations:

1) They were slightly itchy at first, so I wore footless tights underneath them. Some reviews said to wash them and the itchiness would go away. It didn't. After wearing them with the tights underneath for a few days, they were no longer itchy. I guess they just needed to be broken in with some wear to get rid of the little pieces of wool fibers that made them itchy.

2) You need a wind-resistant top layer for them to work well outside. When I wore them under my hiking pants, I was perfectly warm hiking around in the snow and rain. (We spent the day on a glacier and it rained and snowed the entire time.) However, when I wore them under jeans, the wind whipped right through them and I was cold.

3) They work best outside when you generate some body heat. I noticed they were really good at trapping in the warmth created by my body when I was actively hiking, but not as good at keeping me warm when I was leisurely strolling and not generating much body heat. But that could also have something to do with the pants I was wearing (hiking pants vs. jeans as mentioned in #2 above.)

Overall, I am very happy with these leggings. I bought them hoping they would keep me warm when I was out hiking through the Icelandic wilderness, and they did just that. I also wore them at night sometimes instead of pajama pants, and they were comfortable to sleep in - they kept me warm but I never got too hot like I sometimes to in my fleece pajamas.

Also, after a week of almost constant wear, they never got stinky. That was nice as well.

I received some Icebreaker leggings as a gift once (also BF260, but probably bought a few years ago) and their quality is clearly better. The wool doesn't hold together as well on this new pair, and the material is coarser. I was worried they would come apart sooner, and I don't think they're worth it for how much they cost. I returned them.

The size fit me well, although they go up pretty high and it's not always comfortable (I'm 5'10 btw).

Went on a hike in Alaska on glaciers in May... about 40 degrees outside with wind of 25mph. Wore these with wool socks and snow boots, NO PANTS OVER THEM, and was completely warm! Wonderful warm leggings!

These leggings are beautiful. I have used them for hiking trips, running in cold weather, and to wear to bed on cold nights. The wool keeps me warm, is very soft, and feels good against my skin. I am 5'4'' and 135 pounds- a medium fit me well, but not skin-tight. I probably could have gotten a small if I wanted a closer, sexier fit.
