This map makes it easy to distinguish major roads from minor ones, which is very important in Iceland because some "major" roads are unpaved and some minor roads are only for four-wheel-drive vehicles. What I liked most about the map was its use of icons along roads to indicate waterfalls, caves, lighthouses, museums, geysers and geothermal features. This made it like a mini-guidebook and ensured that you didn't drive by something interesting without knowing it. In addition to buying this map, I also bought one by Cartographia. After comparing the two maps, I left the Cartographia at home because the ITMB map was so much more detailed and easier to read. Finally, after the two-week trip, I appreciated how durable (to folding and re-folding every which way) and waterproof this map was!

The map was described as waterproof, which maybe it is, but i was expecting something more plastic and durable. This is still a paper map. Otherwise, the map looks great in terms of a resource for traveling around Iceland.

I really like this map. I wanted a good road map to help us circle the island by car in the week that we will be there on vacation. It is large, has excellent detail and even has some hiking trails on it. Major sight-seeing and "must see" attractions are idicated as well. I recommend it.

This map was OK - lacking detail, but all right if you just want a basic, comprehensive overview. I drove about half the Ring Road - but ended up relying far more on the free maps from the rental car company, tourist info centers, gas stations, etc.
But note: Even if it's not this one, you'll definitely want a good road map for the trip. Don't leave home without. (Price will be double in Iceland.)

We Love Iceland!,

Our family just made its first ever trip to Iceland. We love Iceland! We explored the south of the island from Reykjavik nearly to Hofn. It struck us as like Montana or Wyoming, or perhaps the canyonlands of Utah, only in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The roads are not many, but they were new to us in our rented car, and we consulted this map constantly. We did find, however, that several times we got smaller area road maps from local sources (hotels, gas stations, etc.) that were more detailed, which made orienting ourselves even easier. Best aspect: The map came quickly, giving us plenty of time to consult it before we left...helpful in planning and, even more, in simultaneously heightening and satisfying our excitement.

this map was probably the single most-useful thing I brought for my trip to Iceland. it is large and everything is current and well-marked. I was referring to this map constantly to find off-the-beaten-path stuff, and found the map even had roads marked that were not on my rental car's GPS, which led to some nice scenic drives that were a real treat. I also found a ton of shortcuts between locations which saved me a lot of hours of driving.
I didn't try it out in the rain, but it's fairly durable material and shouldn't disintegrate if it gets wet like some maps do. forget the guided tours. all you need is this map and a car, and you'll have a lot more fun getting around.

i purchased this map to plan photographic trips around Iceland. This maps shows everything that is needed for a road map. It shows major and minor roads along with icons for waterfalls, geysers, hot springs, and much more. Another feature I really liked is that the map shows the regions of Iceland that can make it easier to find something. The only downfall of the map is that it started to tear on the creased from using is so much. I would've thought that a map stating that it is waterproof would be made of a more durable paper.

Very reliable map. Had the nice finish on it and was very durable. The map was accurate and was also helpful in noting tourists things in conjunction with my Lonely Planet Iceland guide. I used a GPS as well, but also found myself checking the map a lot and looking at it for tourists notations. Really not too much else about a map. Nice size, good paper, easy to fold, accurate. A+ in my book.

I bought this map for a father's day gift for my husband to use this summer while traveling in Iceland. It is made of 'write in the rain' type paper so while not indestructible, it did great in the wet climate, held up beautifully on his long road trips and hikes and stowed easily in his backpack. He said it was far better that the maps he had found available in Iceland on previous trips as it had more of the side roads shown (most of the roads in Iceland are 'side roads')and had the benefit of little icons showing various points of interest. It is well worth the money spent... a great value!

Map looks good and quite detailed. Am taking my trip in August so will see how accurate it is on the F roads! Map is not plastic covered as anticipated. By waterproof I think they mean that it will not disintegrate, but may still tear.
