Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-9?Two series entries that give broad pictures of their respective nations' geography, history, government, economy, people, religion, food, and many other facets of culture. The strengths and problems of each country are explored in a depth appropriate for the intended audience, and both books report about the status of women. The texts are organized in a clear, easy-to-use format. Although they have the same chapter titles, the details presented differ widely according to the unique characteristics of each country. The clear, full-color photographs are extremely inviting. Lee gives more detail than Finland in Pictures (Lerner, 1991) and has less text and more appealing photos than Patricia Lander and Claudette Charbonneau's The Land and People of Finland (HarperCollins, 1990); Wilcox's volume is more engaging than Iceland in Pictures (Lerner, 1991). Welcome additions for report writers.?Sandra L. Doggett, Urbana High School, Walkersville, MD

5.0 out of 5 stars Iceland (Cultures of the World), October 19, 2000
By
Jay Aitken (Mount Vernon, WA) - See all my reviews
This book serves as a fine introduction to a great country. In introducing my friends to Iceland I kept checking this out of the library. I kept extending the checkout time for four months because the photographs were so good. The photos capture the normal day-to-day life in Iceland. Don't let the recommended age scare you. Most of those who leafed through this book were adults. I found that not one person was disappointed in it in any way. This book would also serve as a good memory guide after your trip to Iceland.
