5.0 out of 5 stars The better of the two interview compilations
The Iceman Interviews is a 45 minute collection of interviews with Richard Kuklinski and uses pretty much all the same footage as another DVD called Confessions of a Mafia Hitman. Although both DVDs are interesting and offer a peek into the mind of a hitman, arguably a serial killer, although he got paid for it at times, this one has a section titled The Iceman and The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Iceman will leave you cold
I bought this DVD after reading the thoroughly researchced and excellent true crime book, The Ice Man, written by Philip Caputo. The book chronicled the story of Richard Kuklinski, a hit man who purportedly killed over 200 people, many of them contract hits, including the neighbor who accidentally killed John Gotti's son. I was fascinated by the coldness and detachment of...

5.0 out of 5 stars The better of the two interview compilations, December 29, 2006
This review is from: The Iceman Interviews (DVD)
The Iceman Interviews is a 45 minute collection of interviews with Richard Kuklinski and uses pretty much all the same footage as another DVD called Confessions of a Mafia Hitman. Although both DVDs are interesting and offer a peek into the mind of a hitman, arguably a serial killer, although he got paid for it at times, this one has a section titled The Iceman and The Psychologist. That makes all the difference.

This 15 minute interview that Richard Kuklinski has with a psychologist is very eye-opening and really delves into how and why Kuklinski would 1. perform these heinous acts, and 2. be able to perform these heinous acts. It's very interesting to see Kuklinski talk about how these actions made him feel, as well as talking about his childhood and the way his father treated him.

If you're at all interested in psychology or the psychology of serial killers and other abnormalities in the human psyche, this section will keep you enthralled. I only wish it were longer.

The rest of the DVD contains footage and interviews that the other DVD contains as well. In these sections Kuklinski talks about how he went about his career as a hitman, and describes different murders that he committed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An in depth view of a sociopath, March 12, 2007

This review is from: The Iceman Interviews (DVD)
The "Iceman Interviews" contains three interviews of Richard "The Iceman" Kuklinski at Trenton Prison, a maximum security prison in NJ. Kuklinski
was a hired hit-man for the Mafia who enjoyed his work and attempted to
elaborate on it. His victims fell prey to cyanide, a crossbow, rats in
a cave and were often random prey as well as Mafia targets. It is the cold
and cool countenance of Kuklinski that makes the tape. He is not upset by
what he has done, describes killing in a matter of fact way and fulfills
all the criteria for the diagnosis "sociopath". It is riveting to watch and offers a view of a type of killer not often seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, September 4, 2006

This review is from: The Iceman Interviews (DVD)
This compilation includes all 3 Iceman interviews. He comes across like a true psychopath except for the tears shed for his family in the first interview. The interview with the FBI psychologist is the most interesting, as is the Iceman's reaction to the prognosis.

This review is from: The Iceman Interviews (DVD)
I bought this DVD after reading the thoroughly researchced and excellent true crime book, The Ice Man, written by Philip Caputo. The book chronicled the story of Richard Kuklinski, a hit man who purportedly killed over 200 people, many of them contract hits, including the neighbor who accidentally killed John Gotti's son. I was fascinated by the coldness and detachment of Kuklinski, and was eager to hear his voice, as Caputo did such a wonderful job of conveying it's tone, painting a picture of a normal man who contained this impassive ability to kill without remore, over and over again. The problem is, the tapes (there are 3 separate documentaries) don't touch on anywhere near the amount of mayhem the book does. Also, the second doc in the DVD is nothing more than a compilation and recut of the first one. I recommend skipping it and watching 1 and 3. The third, The Iceman and the Psychiatrist, is chilling. When the doctor makes a remark that Kuklinski doesn't like, the killer looks at him and says, "You almost made me mad there." There's palpable tension in his face. i would say that if you're interested in true crime, read the book first and if like me, you just want to hear the killer's voice, see how huge and menacing he could look (6' 5", 300+ lbs!) then you'll enjoy The Iceman Interviews. Just don't expect to learn anything new.

this video and also the first one to come out compile three seperate HBO interviews on richard kuklinski.
won't go into it cuz everyone who'se interested knows what this is.

what people might not know, is that HBO were planning to do an unprecedented FOURTH special on kuklinski, yet he died in march of this year (2006).
maybe they have completed something that we may yet see.(ever see those 15 minute shows on HBO that fill up time? they are like 15-20 minutes)
i'd like to see whatever they have finished, since Kuklinski is thought to have been poisoned, as he died the DAY BEFORE he was supposed to testify against sammy "the bull" gravano.

5.0 out of 5 stars Żou get 3 HBO series in one complete Disc! good offer!, October 24, 2009

Cold as ice. better than you, thats how he wanted. thats how he wanted to.

This man is A significant study of a paranoid psychopath, which did his hits (lone wolf method style mostly)

His mimic around the mouth is typical psychopathic, notice this in the interviews.

Well his a solid build killer machine, but now behind bars.

Hear what he got to say. You might be a bit surprised!

I study Psychopaths in my surveys and his elite type of a kind, separating two existences, from family and blunt remorseless hits at once, almost a psychological splitting? But absolutely coherent (as most psychopaths not emotionally disturbed or foolish in his impulses) A cold minded individual, better not be his friend, those he killed, paranoia and rationality takes over again. But the only one he didn't kill got him behind bars! THIS PERSON IS AMAZING TO OBSERVE, THINK ABOUT WHAT HE GOT AWAY WITH?

5.0 out of 5 stars The face of evil, January 4, 2007
This review is from: The Iceman Interviews (DVD)
For the subject matter covered this is a great documentary. Anything with historical reference is always best explained from first hand experience. The Iceman Interviews does more in explaining the mind of a killer than most books. To watch his demeanor and hear him speak about all the horrific things he did in his life with such a casual ease holds true the fact that some people are simply EVIL. Strange too, he comes off as a guy that you would want for a neighbor, if you didn't know any better. The sort of guy you'd ask to watch your house while you're on vacation...really really creepy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chilling, June 26, 2009

I suggest you read the book "The Iceman: Confessions of a Mafia Hitman" to get the complete story before you view this DVD. I couldn't put the book down! I wanted to see his face and demeanor afterwards, so I bought the DVD. Chilling. His eyes are flat and cold, the Grim Reaper in person. If he has one redeeming quality, it is that some of his victims were as evil as he was (well, almost) and the world is a better place without them.
