4.0 out of 5 stars absolutely beautiful, April 9, 2009

This review is from: Ichetucknee: Sacred Waters (Hardcover)
This is my new favorite coffee table book. Having grown up in NFL, I have traveled down the Itchetucknee River by tube a number of times. When I was little and swam competitively, I used its strong current as a training tool.

This book is really breath-taking. It is often difficult to distinguish photographs from artwork. The poetry is lovely and thought-provoking. The forward and afterward were both interesting.

There are a few reasons I give it 4 instead of 5 stars. First, I wish that there were more descriptions of the photographs...where, specifically, were they taken? What, exactly, am I looking at? Also, I wish there were more poetry. Finally, I wish that the book were larger and the pictures glossier. I'm sure that this is just a budget thing to keep the price of the book down....but I gladly would have spent another $5 - 10 for slightly larger or slightly glossier pages. Then it truly would have been breath-taking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Book of Photographs, January 23, 2012

This review is from: Ichetucknee: Sacred Waters (Hardcover)
This book shows a good idea of what it's like to tube down the Ichetucknee, a journey I've made a number of times. I went when it was still wild, before it was discovered by tourists and became a 'destination.'

The water's still crystal clear and the sand is what we call 'white sugar sand.' The last time I made the 3.5 hour journey in snorkel gear. It's lovely and peaceful, just as it was when I was a little girl.

This is the last wild river in Florida and well worth a trip. However, if you can't make it down, order this book and take a visual journey. It's nearly as good as being here.
