4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty nu-jazz from Japan, without the noodles, November 27, 2002
This review is from: Ichi (Audio CD)
Disorient's first label compilation shows what they've been fancying at the Mr. Bongo record shop in Japan, which would be achingly up to date nu-jazz treasures from mostly Japanese artists, aimed for sophisticated dance floors and cool cafes. And Giles Peterson.

So there's Kaori (Berlin techno's Thomas Schumacher in warm fuzzy mode) with "Good Life" equal parts hip-shaking swing and filter/EQ abuse, Latin piano licks gliding along thick percussive breaks on Takada/Ashley Beedle's "Ole Le," classy crooning from Mark Murphy via Tenth & Parker/King Britt on "Kool Down," and (gasp) Miyazawa's Brazillian makeover from Truby Trio via "Anjos Ilmaos." Oh yes, Coldfeet's sunset classic "In My Lucid Dream," all gentle guitars and soft beats, and Mr. Hermano's Charlie Brown theme with vocal (a compliment) "Free as the Morning Sun" are here as well.

Hmm, so it's basically flawless (excepting Masters At Work's dated disco) and brilliantly packaged to boot. Note to Disorient; on with the sequel, and sort it out quicker next time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full Tracklist to an Amazing Uncommon Compilation, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Ichi (Audio CD)
1) Kaori: Good Life (5:31)
2) Chieko Kinbara: A Espera (7:18)
Featuring Liliana Chachian
3) Atmosfear: Dancing In Outer Space (Masters At Work Moody Mix) (8:05)
4) Spook: Feel Up (Salt City Orchestra Wednesday Mix) (7:08)
Featuring Róisín Murphy
5) Takada: Ole Le (Ashley Beedle Sun Barrio Break Mix) (7:10)
6) Miyazawa: Anjos Llrmaos (Trüby Trio Remix) (5:55)
7) Tenth & Parker: Kool Down (King Britt's Scuba Mix) (7:12)
8) Coldfeet: In My Lucid Dream (Karma Remix) (5:53)
9) Su-Paka-Pooh: Theme De Yo-Yo (Restless Soul Mix) (7:06)
10) Mr. Hermano: Free As The Morning Sun (6:59)
11) Dimitri From Paris: Toujours L'Amore (4:17)

Standouts include the Electro-Jazzy cover of "Good Life" originally made famous by Inner City, and the ever amazing Roisin Murphy on Sultry-House vocals of "Feel Up". The entire album feels uncommon and alive with energy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Incorrect track listing, October 20, 2011
This review is from: Ichi (Audio CD)
Tut tut to whoever printed the track listing...

Track 4 'Spook-Feel Up' is listed on the cd as the 'Salt City Orchestra Wednesday Mix' when in fact its the much better 'Original Grope Mix'
