Book Description

National Readers Choice Award Winner

Cake Icing, Butt Budder and Tea Lids has been described as Sweet Home Alabama, the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Practical Magic and Steel Magnolias all rolled into one. "In the South, if a woman isn't married by age twenty-five, it's time for an intervention." This is the basis behind Delilah and Edna Thibodeaux's dogged determination to make sure their beloved Jezze doesn't end up an old spinster, like her mother and aunt.

But what happens when the eccentric antics of the young girl's crazy Cajun aunt and mother put her search for Mr. Right on a 25-year deadline to potential disaster? And why should she have to prove that they are the experts in marriage intervention, anyway? Because she loves them? Yeah, probably. Because they really don't mean any harm? That too. But when they decide her Mr. Right is T-Roy Bertrand, the butt budder salesman, does she really have to agree? And if she's made up her mind, why does her heart refuse to listen?

"This book was a very fun read, and it is something that will distract you from even the worst of days. It really does scream for a sequel (I hope). I highly recommend Cake Icing, Butt Budder, and Tea Lids  This is a great little book if you are looking for something quick and easy to read and you are into laughing out loud and aren't afraid to cry.  This would make an excellent book for the beach."   ~ Ravenous Reader Book Reviews

1.0 out of 5 stars First book I stopped reading May 22, 2012
By Angie
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I got to 12% on my Kindle and had to stop. I have too many books waiting to be read to waste my time with this one. I have never stopped a book without finishing it because I always hope it will get better, but this one is not worth my time. I thought this book was terrible and I couldn't get into it. I've never left a bad review for a book but I had to give another point of view since so many people seem to like it. I couldn't get past the fact that the woman decorates her cakes topless, and encourages her young daughter to do the same. It's digusting and wrong on so many levels. No, I'm not a prude or uptight, but c'mon. I'm sure I will get bad comments, but sorry, it had to be said.

As far as the e-book itself, there are no page numbers as indicated in the description, just location information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book - Telling everyone I know! March 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read through the reviews, and it just looked like a fun book to read and it was sure not disappointing! I almost laid it down after the first couple of pages thinking this is really a whacked out book, not at all what I usually like to read, but am I glad I read on. I don't usually read really fast but this was really a page turner and made for a fun couple of days cooped up with this nasty cold I have. But cold or not, I would have made time for this book after I got into it. I highly recommend it so long as you are not a prude . . . on second thought, maybe it's just want the doctor ordered for all prudes! It's all good clean fun, a really romantic comedy as it is advertised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book! December 13, 2011
Format:Paperback
The story starts off with Delilah Thibodeaux, who is in the hospital because she just delivered a baby girl named Jezze (18 hours ago to be exact). Her sister, Edna, thinks that Delilah has had plenty of recovering time. Edna is ready for Delilah to leave the hospital so both of them can return to their bakery, Thibodeaux's Cakery. Oh, and we also learn that Delilah has not told the father of her baby that he has a daughter. I was already hooked into the book. All this drama and I had not even gotten to chapter 1 yet!

The story follows Delilah, Edna, and Jezze for about the next 25 years. We learn the secret to creating the perfect cake (it just may involve taking off a certain article of clothing). We learn that butt budder actually is an essential item that you should always have with you (who would have known). We also learn that sometimes you really should follow your heart.

You cannot help falling in love with the three southern main ladies. They each have unique personalities. I think Jezze was my favorite character. Her mother and aunt wanted to make sure she found love and Jezze had a deadline to find Mr. Right. I loved seeing her grow up and learn about all the crazy things that happened to her along the way.

loved this story. After I finished it, I was left wanting me. I totally wish there was a sequel or another story with these characters! If you like cute, romantic, funny, lighthearted reads, you will love this book too. The characters are so likable and you never know what twist is coming next. Cute story that you must read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful! May 28, 2012
By lola
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book, from what little I read, was just plain awful. Thankfully it was free but the time wasted on it wasnt! I stopped at middle of chapter 2 and deleted it from my kindle library, not caring if the book got any better...which I seriously doubt! . If ever there was a diet book, this was it! Turned me off of cakes and buying from anyone other than a real bakery. I only hope the author isn't writing from her own experiences!!

1.0 out of 5 stars The book is dumber than the title. June 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am flabbergasted and dismayed at the number of positive reviews received by this terrible book. I am not a literary snob, a prude, nor a feminist, but I am annoyed on all those levels with this book. First of all, I do enjoy a light-hearted "Miss Julia" sort of book. I like to be amused and have been known to awaken my husband laughing out loud at something I've been reading in bed, but this book is NOT funny. I never even smiled, not once. I became more and more annoyed as the author consistently misspelled the plural form of her own characters' names by using the possessive, Thibodeaux's, instead of Thibodeauxs. And somewhere, sometime, the author learned that she should have a "theme" for her book, which she beat to death in this book with the idea that Thibodeauxs are strong women (misspelled every time, as I noted earlier). At one point she noted that the character of Delilah had a baby in her old age like Sophie in the Bible. SOPHIE in the Bible??!! No! It was not Sophie!
Next, my point that I am not a prude. In spite of that, I was disgusted by the obssssion with breasts, particularly bare breasts. I shall never again purchase a cake at a local, independent bakery for fear that it was iced and decorated by a big-busted woman who insisted on dragging her nipples through the icing!
Finally, and most disturbing for me, is that this book teaches the idea that a woman cannot be happy unless she finds "her right man." I shudder to think that my 30-year-old daughter might have read this book as a teenager and been presented with the idea that a college-educated, productive member of society is somehow incomplete without a "right man." That idea absolutely insults my sensibilities.
Please don't waste your time or money on this one.

This book tries too hard to be linked to an area with slang. Silly in some spots but very well intentioned story and sweet/sad ending.
