This review is from: Icky Bug Shapes (Paperback)
This is an excellent book written by Jerry Pallotta, illustrated by Shennen Bersani, and published by Scholastic. The illustrations are superior and the book contains well written concepts. This is definitely a book that can be used with students for a thematic unit, project support material, and concept introduction. The book teaches students about the variety of shapes that can be found in nature using living creatures as a motivator. Students search for shapes created by bugs and view bugs and their unique bodies (shapes). What a fantastic book for introducing a bug unit in conjunction with a math unit. It stimulates a host of extension activities, i.e., cutouts, cut/paste, art, math chains, mobils, questioning strategies, and graphic organizers, etc. for reading, science, and mathematics.
