I am a preschool teacher and mother of 4. My 2 year-old classroom loves this book. It flows wonderfully read out loud. I have adapted the story using animal props and puppets. The kids love it. It is a great book to begin teaching science concepts such as the food chains and habitats. It makes a great addition to theme related activities involving frogs / pond life. If I have to have only one book with me at circle time this one is the one I know will grab the childrens' attention and hold it for multiple readings. A wonderful gift and a must own for every parent and/or teacher.

A delightful book, full of fun and whimsical illustrations!!,

Dawn Bently and Salina Yoon have teamed up to create a wonderful children's book! I have read this book to my kindergarten class and they loved it, asking to read it again and again! The predictable text and colorful illustrations make it easy to comprehend, and do guided and shared reading activities! The actual "sticky tongue" on the cover was a clever addition to draw children into the book! I have made it a part of my permanent spring reading collection!

A fun book for kids!,
By JKH "Selective TV Viewer" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Icky Sticky Frog (Hardcover)
Although the story doesn't send an important message, it is silly and fun, and the words flow fairly well. The book illustrations are fun and the ending has an unexpected twist. The book is fun on its own, but the "icky sticky" tongue on the front of the book sends my kids (and me) into hysterics. (Tip: Be sure to read the cleaning instructions on the back of the book to keep the tongue sticky.) My kids (9 months and 2 1/2 years) love this book! I have bought copies for other children to share the fun.

Not what I expected, but still enjoyable,

I am a children's librarian in training, so I am always on the lookout for good books to read aloud. I was expecting a larger pop-up book to use for story-times at the library. Unfortunately, this book is too small (5"x5")to use for story-time purposes. However, my own kids love the book! The illustrations are vibrant and charming, and the kids love pulling the stretchy tongue on the cover and watching it snap the fly back to the frog's mouth. Best for younger children, ages 3-5.

Oh my what a book! I saw this at babies r us and didn't even think about it - just picked it up and bought it. It is just the neatest thing - I LOVE that sticky tongue on the front of the book. We really like frogs in our family and this one really is awesome. Cute story - teaches about the food chain which is interesting. My son just loves this book - pulling the tongue and hearing it snap is just a recipe for giggles! Just a really, really cute idea and well thought out. Thanks a bunch to the author and publisher. It's just one of those very unique items that you just have to have, and then buy for everyone else on your list! Love it!

We have this book memorized........,

This review is from: The Icky Sticky Frog (Hardcover)
We have read this book so much we have it memorized. I have to say that that the first time I read the book, we did experience a bit of shock at the way it ended. You are expecting something different and my son said, "Mom, what happened!" So then I was able to explain how the food chain works in nature. The long sticky-stretchy tongue came off of our book---maybe we read the book too much?? But after 3 children, the book is still the favorite. My 2 year old follows me around the house wanting me to read it over and over....I recite the story while cooking dinner and he sits on the couch and looks at the book....his favorite is the WHOOP! and SLURP! sounds I make.

Not for Sensitive or Young Children,

I bought The Icky Sticky Frog for my 3 year old grand-daughter, but after receiving it, I'll donate it to Goodwill. The problem is that the insects the frog eats, are drawn beautifully and engagingly, and it is just horrible and awful to watch these compelling creatures being murdered one by one. The fact that the frog gets murdered at the end just teaches a kind of evil vengeance that is hardly a lesson a young child needs. This is NOT a young child's book.

Icky Sticky,

This review is from: The Icky Sticky Frog (Hardcover)
I came across this book in an LTD magazine, when I ordered it I thought my daughter would enjoy it because of the icky sticky tongue...much to my delight and surprise she LOVES this story! This is her favorite story and I could recite the entire book to you by heart... The book that I purchased last year has been read soooooo many times that I am now purchasing 3 more so that I never have to put the book up from her and tell her "it's broke, we can't read it right now...." Did I mention my daughter was only a year old when I got this book for her????? After ready the reviews for "The Icky Sticky Anteater" I now plan on purchasing that book as well. Plus I have also found out that this author has published another similiar book called "The Icky Sticky Chameleon"!!!

My daughter loves it, but.....,
This review is from: The Icky Sticky Frog (Hardcover)
My husband and I hate this book (maybe just because we're tired of it) but my 2 year old loves it, which is all that matters! Everytime we read the part where the frog's tounge comes out....wooop!....she laughes and giggles and wants more, more, more!!! By far better by the same author is "The Icky Sticky Anteater." It actually has a moral to the story and the illus. are wonderful!!!

This book was so much fun for my family. Children love pulling the tounge back and then going "SNAP"!!! I've never had a book you had to clean with water before. HE HE HE!!!! Cleaning is a little annoying, but not that much trouble. Good story and cute drawings.
