My appreciation for opera is new, although I've been listening to classical music for about fifty years. So I've been picking up some 'opera highlight' cds to get my feet wet. This set is a wonderful bargain. The arias are exquisitely beautiful and Caballe's voice is a gorgeous instrument. Highly recommended.

I've often wondered about the answer to the age old question posed by the Persian poet: What can we possibly offer the wine merchant for his drink if it's as good as we poets make it out to be?The answer must be singing of such magnificence. If you haven't much by Caballe this offering should give you a convincing and wondrous introduction in depth to one of last century's supreme operatic sopranos. Frankly, this quality of singing is beyond criticism. |
