This review is from: Icon: Patsy Cline (Audio CD)
Look, I'm not writing much here. MCA (now MCA Nashville) has shamelessly and continuously milked Patsy Cline's catalogue. This dates back to the 1980s. There have been some great Cline releases on MCA ('Greatest Hits,' 'The Last Sessions,' 'Live at the Opry,' 'Today Tomorrow & Forever,' 'Songwriter's Tribute,' 'The Patsy Cline Story') but there are plenty of unnecessary ones as well. FAR more unnecessary ones than essential ones. This is one of the unessential releases. This album is ridiculously unnecessary. The 'Icon' series is far worse than the '20th Century Masters' series, which UMG seems to have replaced it with. Patsy Cline's a talented legend gone far too soon. No one for a second would deny that. But this collection is just insulting to her legacy. Come on, MCA Nashville. Delve into the vaults and dig up some archival Patsy Cline. 'Live at the Cimmaron Ballroom,' released a few years ago was great. Give us more of that. We know you have it. Avoid this like the plague. If you are new to Patsy Cline, go buy 'The Patsy Cline Story.' Enough said.
