The German powerhouse Heaven Shall Burn were one of the first groups to ultimately shatter the boundaries that stood between the death metal and hardcore genres. They area metalcore band from Saalfeld, Germany. They combine an aggressive metal sound with lyrics that show a militant support of anti-racism and fighting social injustice. Four of the five members are vegan. The band name is inspired by a poem by nineteenth century German poet Heinrich Heine of the same name. Even though the band's sound is death metal and metalcore, the band mentioned "We don't care if people call us metal core, thrash metal or death metal. It's not limiting us. People are always looking for some short terms to describe music, but that shouldn't affect the musicians, I think." 15 tracks. EMM/Century Media.

There are a few tracks on this album I don't much care for but overall it's pretty damn awesome. The first song, Endzeit, is one of the best metal songs I've heard in quite some time. Without going into too much detail, if you like metal with harsh vocals and minus the overkill keyboards and power metal elements this should be right on the money.

Granted, I have not been listening to deathcore as a subgenre for a long period of time, but Heaven Shall Burn is the best I have heard so far. 'Iconoclast' is certainly no exception.

German powerhouse Heaven Shall Burn has produced a memorable album in Iconoclast. Many will label this band as metalcore, but it is metalcore and so much more, if you'll forgive the rhyme. All of the songs are heavy and brutal in the nasty way that metal should be. The drumming is tight, and just enough melody peeks through the blinding storm of aggression while not dominating the album.

There are no clean vocals here. Just relentless, harsh screams and growls. This blows traditional metalcore out of the water. Listen to it. You will like it.

'Iconoclast' gets a healthy 4.8/5 stars.

Ive been a fan of Heaven Shall Burn ever since I heard The Weapon They Fear. I loved the song and bought the cd right away. I really dont listen to them often but I do buy all there cds for some reason. This cd is all the way thru-awesome. The only problem with the cd is the last two songs are instrumentals, which is kind of stupid. I wont be like most reviewers and take a star away for it. This cd is too great. Highly recommended and I hope to see them on tour.
