I am an iconographer and Director of the Iconography Institute at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral,Portland, Oregon [...].

This reference work is an invaluable document to help us in the re-creation of ancient icons which may either be no longer in existence or unavailable for reference. Together with sketchbooks from other regions and schools, we improve our attempts to adhere to the authorised and authentic images and rubrics of iconography, as promulgated by the Orthodox Church.

This volume, with its line drawings and esoteric data, will not be very interesting to others not actually practicing as iconographers - but to us, it is a "jewel" beyond price.

In addition to offering many sketches of historic icons. The book has specific value as a sketch of a specific collection of icons. What a blessing to have this volume available in English.

While not all images would generally be approved for Orthodox iconography, others are extraordinary. And the explanations accompanying them are otherwise unavailable in English.

I've used some of these images for some of my own iconography, and consider many to be of very high quality.

This book has a lot of good sketches in it, and it seems to be organized in a sensible way. My only complaint is that they have a bunch of fantasy icons in it, which you only find out after looking through the text.

I also want Volume One...
