Very highly recommended as a companion acquisition for American Music History reference collections is the Greewood Press edition of ICONS OF R&B AND SOUL: AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF TH ARTISTS WHO REVOLUTIONIZED RHYTHM, compiled and edited by Bob Gulla and providing an excellent, two-volume, in-depth survey of musicians and their contributions to changing the atmosphere of rock and soul music. Each featured musician receives a biographical coverage, a history of hits, social issues of their times affecting their music, a discography and more. An outstanding survey recommended for any music library strong in popular and soul music.
