5.0 out of 5 stars Icy Cools Reusable Ice Mats
Bought these for a trip to Maui. Took frozen food in a softsided cooler and wanted to make sure the food would stay frozen. The food was still frozen when we got to our condo after a 12 hour flight, 1 hour waiting for our luggage and a 45 minute drive to our condo.
I also like the fact that when they do "melt" there is no water dripping. You just freeze and reuse...

1.0 out of 5 stars No better & too expensive !!!
I do not understand why anyone thinks these are so wonderful...

They are just squares of water encased in plastic....Which WILL tear. One of my frozen ones caught on the bottom of a wire rack in my freezer. Ripped the section open....

The most important thing is that they just do NOT keep foods any colder for any longer than a zip lock bag of ice...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this product, September 8, 2007

I have only had these ice mats for about a month. I use one every day to take my lunch in an insulated lunch box. My drink is always colder than when I put it in there. It keeps everything fresh and cold.

I have also used 2 of them in an ice chest, and things stay cold for hours. I used them today to go to the grocery knowing that I had stops to make on the way home. I arrived home a couple hours later, and I had put milk and yogurt in the ice chest with the ice mats. Everything was ice cold when I got home. I love this product, and just wish I had found it sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful, September 7, 2006
This review is from: Icy Cools Reusable Ice Mats :: Three (3) Pack for Coolers (10" x 16" each - Equivalent to 10 lbs of Ice) (Misc.)
I like to throw these in a cooler when I'm going to the pool or to the lake.

I also have a back injury that these work great on. They are broad enough to cover everywhere I need. I would recommend these ice mats to anyone.

The only thing I wish I could find is a sling I could put these in so I could wear them without having to be seated or laying down. I know a seamstress who could prob make me something so I'll prob go that route

5.0 out of 5 stars Easier than ice cubes!, June 25, 2010

These work great for me. So far, I've used them about 20 times, in a soft-sided cooler that travels to baseball games. Even when frozen, there's some bendability to the mats, which lets me shape them, somewhat, to the size of the cooler. The mats are much easier to use than ice cubes, or other cold packs I've tried. They've been dropped 6' from the top of my freezer onto the hard floor, while frozen, with no breakage or leaking. I like this product!

I'm happy with my purchase. The mats are nice to wrap around food containers and bottles so the cold surrounds them. They are lighter than the typical blue ice blocks. The only reason I didn't give them a rating of 5 is that I think they are easy to puncture if they get poked or rub to hard against things. The pros are greater than the cons and I would purchase them again.

Great product. Ends paying a fortune for a few hours worth of ice. Rolls up nicely and takes very little freezer room.

These are great - 100x better than any blue freezy thing. They stay flexible even when frozen so you can wrap them around your beverages. Awesome!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps food ice cold, July 8, 2010

I love these mats. One fits perfectly inside my soft-side insulated lunch bag. I put a frozen Healthy Choice dinner (unboxed) in my lunch bag, wrapped by the mat and 6 hours later at lunchtime, my meal was still frozen solid. I now have to find a larger lunch bag so I can separate food that doesn't require chilling. The banana and cashew nuts I placed in my bag for my mid-morning snack were super cold! LOL! I really like that they're flexible and the company offers these mats in other sizes (individual cells and strips). It is important to note that the silver side needs to face the food, not the clear side. I think they're pretty sturdy. Another review downgraded their rating because they thought they would be prone to puncture. Unless you're packing a knife and a porcupine in your lunch bag or jump on them, I believe they'll hold up well to daily use with food and/or as a cold compress.

Disclaimer: I use these mats for my lunch bag which I take to work and my office space is cool/air conditioned. I'm not sure how long these mats will keep food cold if the ambient temperature is warm/hot. I saw a reviewer posting that the it lasted 2 hours. I am planning a road trip to the desert soon and will see how they hold up. I will post a follow-up review with the results.

1.0 out of 5 stars No better & too expensive !!!, July 26, 2010

I do not understand why anyone thinks these are so wonderful...

They are just squares of water encased in plastic....Which WILL tear. One of my frozen ones caught on the bottom of a wire rack in my freezer. Ripped the section open....

The most important thing is that they just do NOT keep foods any colder for any longer than a zip lock bag of ice from the ice maker or a frozen slab of water in a zip lock bag. Yes, the plastic bag sweats but so do these things !!! I take ice bags in insulated coolers to animal rescue adoptions to keep our soft drinks cold and to cool down any dog that might get over heated. The nice thing about putting ice cubes in plastic bags is that I can put the cubes in the dog's water bowl. Can't do that with these things.

But the really disappointing part is that I still have frozen ice in my plastic bags long after this product has melted. You get 3 of these for a ridiculous price even if there is free shipping. It will take 2 of them for each insulated cooler...Look at the picture of the product being used.

It is nice that they are USA made but if they don't work and are expensive what difference does it make where they are made ???? Back to the drawing board for product development.....

Update: I used these for only the 2nd time this past weekend. I promise....only the 2nd time !!!They were in an insulated cooler tote under and covering a plastic container of Costco shrimp salad (@$5.99/lb) The outside edge seal on 3 of the cubes failed. The cubes melted and my tote had water in the bottom and it had seeped into the shrimp salad, which I then had to throw away. I was/am so angry that this worthless product has cost me so much money !!! I have absolutely NO confidence that this product will hold up and therefore have thrown away the other 2 pieces. Not worth the hassle. Again, double zip lock bags of ice work better & stay frozen MUCH, MUCH longer !
