This is 3 patches in 1 resealable pouch "for adults and children over 12 years". 5 1/2" x 9 3/4" (14cm x 25 cm each patch), which covers a substantial area. The box says it is comfortable fabric, stays in place, lasts up to 8 hours. It says a medicated patch with 5% menthol can be used for arthritis, simple bachache, bursitis, tendonitis, muscle strains, sprains, bruises, cramps. I found it to be a penetrating gentle heat, hardly noticeable when going about daily activities, but quietly working in the background all the same. I found it to work well beyond 8 hours. Here is what the patch did for me:
I woke up on Thanksgiving day with a nasty backache, mainly toward my left side--thought I must have somehow twisted in my sleep. It was stiff and sore, but bearable, and got a little worse as the day went on. Fortunately, I ate dinner out. I took two Advil. The next morning I was off to Bethlehem, PA, to help some friends at a craft show for the weekend. I wondered if I should go, but I felt reasonably ok. The 2 1/2 hour drive was no problem. I spent most of Friday sitting, getting up now and then to help with a sale. By 8 pm Friday night, I was so sore I could barely walk! The pain radiated from my back to the front and felt like someone ripped my stomach open. My friends suggested I use these Icy Hot patches, take a warm shower, and to consider taking maybe 4 Advil instead of 2. I did just that. After the warm shower, I dried off well and put this patch across my back. I took 2 Advil PM and 2 regular Advil. Unbelievable as it may sound, by Saturday morning, I was about 95% better! My range of motion was back and there was almost no pain. I changed the patch in the morning, took 3 Advil about every 6 hours, changed the patch at bedtime again. On Sunday morning, I put a new patch on and left it on for 24 hours. It is Monday night and I am fine without a patch or the Advil. I am back to normal.
The patch (plus Advil) provided overnight relief from horrible pain. It don't get much better than that, Folks!
