Praise for I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love:

“Young children adore pretending to be animals, and Tillman’s (The Crown on Your Head) insight into the wish to turn into another creature powers this book. The narrator, a handsome woman whose red clothing adds a spot of contrasting color to each spread, claims that infallible radar allows her to identify the child she loves no matter what animal form the child decides to adopt. 'If early one morning, you put on your socks/ and declare, "For today, I’m a little red fox!"/ I’d say "My, my... that is quite a disguise!"/ But I’d know it was you by the gleam in your eyes.' Each verse subtly affirms an aspect of the child’s appearance ('your grin'; 'your clever tiptoes'), and Tillman’s silky, digitally painted spreads show the woman interacting in joyful and inventive ways with each animal: crouched in a field with a baby pig, ice skating with bear cubs, and dancing with blue-footed boobies. Even kids who draw back from syrupy love language will enjoy the conceit that nothing can fool a mother.” Publishers Weekly

"I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love" by Nancy Tillman is a nice book that your pre-school kids will adore.

What separates it from the rest of the children books is beautiful message of each and every child's uniqueness, the one that says that every child should be different and not to be ashamed about it. Diversity should be cherished and be proud of it.

And when mother is telling her child that no matter what he or she will become, a giraffe, a bear or an owl, she'll always love him/her, the reader can only think that if all mothers were like her, this would be a better world in which to live..

Besides beautiful message that this book is carrying, it's well-written and nicely designed with numerous animals' illustrations.

This was the first Nancy Tillman book which I am aware of, but certainly it won't be the last.
I fully recommend you give your child a chance to travel to a world of owls, camels, bears and giraffes, the world so beautifully presented by Nancy.

I am rewriting my review if anything just to delete the comments of overzealous people on here. The review process is supposed to be for people to honestly write what THEY think about the product purchased. For people to come on and go into long soap boxes and crucify the reviewer for being honest means that the review process is not being followed as intended.
I rated this one star. People seemed to have HUGE issues with this. The rating system is as follows:
1 star is for if you hate the item. 2 stars is for if you don't like it. 3 stars equals that you think it's just ok. and so on...
I put one star because I hated the book. I thought it was totally sappy and boring. The sentiment is very sweet but the way it's written just comes across as overly sappy. I am not a hard person, and can be tender and easily melted by my children. I refer to them as love, lovey, and lovely ALL the time. This doesn't mean that I would assume that a book is sappy because it contains the words "my love" in the title. It could just just as easily mean that the book is sweet without being sappy, or that a parent considers their child to be their little love, etc. However, because there seems to be so much anger directed towards me for not liking this book (and saying so!), I am changing the review to a two star, which means I don't like it. This is not some aggressive statement about gender roles, or being sweet with your kids! I'm simply stating that I don't like the book. None of my kids (several children from 2 - 7 years old) liked the book. They all thought it was boring and silly. Take it however you may, but please don't sit and pummel me with comments about how I shouldn't rate this with one or two stars just because you disagree.

My son is only 17 months right now, but he loves the animals, illustration and colors... someday when he understands it, it will be even more special. Thank you, Nancy for another fabulous book for our collection.

We now have ALL the Nancy Tillman books on the bookshelf. We (by that i mean me) are really big fans. We love all her books and i love to read them as they flow really easily. I bought On the night you where born before my baby was born and then subsequently bought the rest of them as Im such a fan. She is now 6 months old. I read these books every night to my little girl in the hope she realises just how special she is to us (we were told we couldnt have children naturally and despite all that here she is). So everyday I tell her how much i love her and how special she is to her mummy and daddy. I love this book as it reinforces that message that no matter what I will love her. Just as special as on the night you where born and no matter where you are my love will find you! I will continue to read these booksto her as I love them so much and hope one day she loves them just as me! I look forward to the next ones!!!

Every child wants to be the best child they can for their mother and father. They want their love, and they know when they are loved. Some parents are unable for whatever reason to tell their children they love them. However, their actions speak louder than words. When a child is a little different, they know this, and they wonder if they will still be loved.

The author, Nancy Tillman, has written a book for every child and for every parent. For those who can't acknowledge love this is perfect, for those who love their child and tell them daily, this is perfect. For every child who has ever wondered if they will still be loved, this is perfect. The words and the storyline will open up questions and time for discussions. For those who think this book is sappy, this is perfect for them. The illustrations are colorful, vivid and dramatic, depicting all of the beings the child might be, and the parent recognizes. I would hope this book finds it's way into every household and every pre-school and every daycare. This is perfect.

Highly Recommended. prisrob 05-02-14
