I'd Rather We Got Casinos is the funniest book that I have enjoyed in years! I thing that he should get an award for it. I have been telling all of my friends and family about it. I even bought copies as gifts knowing that they would be surprised that they had not heard about this before. Larry is brilliant!!! I highly recommend it this book!

I picked this up in anticipation of a long car ride and this audiobook did not dissapoint. Wilmore is a great comedian and humorist, and having Wilmore read his own words is about as close to a comedy album as you're going to get from him. But the added bonus is that these are broad ideas rather than quick punchlines (though he has plenty of zingers, too)and he takes his comedy very seriously.
There are a few "radio transcript" portions that I felt kind of dragged, and Wilmore reads every voice or person in those transcripts so it can get a little grating- kind of like someone reading a comic strip out loud. But Wilmore knows his timing and delivery and essays such as "Black weather men make me Happy (and sad)" as well as the "Eulogy for the N-word" are hilarious.
If you enjoy seeing Wilmore's appearances on the Daily Show, you will really enjoy this book.

The title alone made me laugh out loud for a good five minutes. The stories only get better. Larry Wilmore's writing is so smart and witty. He rips apart, elucidates, and makes fun of assumptions about race and popular culture. Wilmore reminds you that laughing can still be profound. Wilmore narrates the production, and provides just the right timing.
