The illustrations are awesome, the story purpose...much needed. The writing fell short. I feel as if the whole story was written and then the verses were thrown in to make it relevant to for Christian Little girls. If you want books to teach Christian values to your little girl in a manner she can understand. PLEASE consider A TRUE PRINCESS for ages 3+, THe PRINCESS...

5.0 out of 5 stars An uplifting parable of human virtues to strive for, August 13, 2004
This review is from: I'd Be Your Princess (Hardcover)
Wonderfully written by Kathryn O'Brien and nicely illustrated by Michael Garland, I'd Be Your Princess: A Royal Tale Of Godly Character is a picturebook for Christian children. It tells of the bond between father and daughter. The daughter imagines what it would be like to be royalty, while the father encourages positive traits and good character. Each two-page spread also features an appropriate quote from Biblical scripture such as "Show proper respect to everyone" (1 Peter 2:17) or "Be kind and compassionate to one another." (Ephesians 4:32). An uplifting parable of human virtues to strive for, that combines religious values with positive and enriching principles to guide one's life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic message of Character!, March 18, 2005
This review is from: I'd Be Your Princess (Hardcover)
This discovery was a gold-mine! I work as a bookseller and when I found this original title illustrated by the wonderful Michael Garland, I knew it was a winner. I love the message of the story which will inspire "princesses" of all ages to be royal in their character! The girl's father responds to her with solid encouragement about her inner beauty throughout the book. I think many people are looking for books like this that are well done, but also are laden with the deep treasure only scripture can give. I have sold MANY copies of this book!

The illustrations by Michael Garland are superb. Kathryn O'Brien's enchanting adventure story, illustrating biblical principles about godly character, is thoroughly heartwarming. The wonderful cadence of this book makes it a perfect read-aloud book for every Christian father and young daughter. My wife loves reading it to our youngest daughter, as well. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Daddies and Daughters, August 4, 2005
This review is from: I'd Be Your Princess (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my husband and daughters to share together. I was very pleased with the constant affirmation the "king" gives the "princess". My daughters love playing princess and this is something they can relate to while helping to focus their thoughts on important character traits. It's a very sweet and possitive bedtime story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful training for God's young princesses, May 11, 2007

This review is from: I'd Be Your Princess (Hardcover)
I'd Be Your Princess: A Royal tale of Godly Character was written by Kathryn O'rien and illustrated by Michael Garland. It has earned the Gold Medallion Book Award in recognition of excellence in evangelical Christian literature. The illustrations fill the pages with color and tender details.

The book tells of a little girl and her father who imagine what life would be like were he a king and she his princess. The little girl dreams of jewels, castles, fancy balls and royal adventures. At each turn her father highlights opportunities for godly character -- even as a princess. He talks of good manners, bravery, generosity and kindness, just to name a few. Each characteristic is supported with Scripture. The wording is encouraging, enchanting and challenging for young girls.

What I Like: I love this book! And so does my daughter. She, like most three-year-olds, is obsessed with princesses. This book is a perfect way to endulge that fantasy while teaching about godly character. The story is so positive. Rather than reprimanding a daughter who dreams of being higher than all others, the father teaches her wonderful ways to exhibit royal character as a child of God. This is a wonderful book for parents to read to their children and for first readers to read themselves.

What I Dislike: Absolutely nothing.

Overall Rating: Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, December 5, 2004
This review is from: I'd Be Your Princess (Hardcover)
This book is just wonderful! Whether you are looking for a Godly book or not this is the sweetest, sweetest book for a father/daughter. I would recommend it to anyone with a little girl. Especially as a special gift from Daddy.

And if you are not interested in the biblical verses that are in the book it is not focused on that at all. Just a small verse at the bottom of each page that you could include (which I recommend ) or you could omit it from the reading if you choose.

Bible stories are great, but how many Noah's Ark books do I own??? 3 or 4? This is perfect for little girls who love fairy tales, but also need a wholesome lesson about living according God's wishes. It is a great book for daddy to read to them.
