Must-have for Idaho collectors,
By Garret Romaine (Portland, Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Idaho Minerals: The Complete Reference and Guide to the Minerals of Idaho 2nd Edition, Revised and Update (Paperback)
Lanny Ream is the top mineral collector in Idaho, and the second edition of his ground-breaking book is practically required reading for rockhounds in the Gem State. He combines an obvious love of well-formed minerals with an encyclopedic knowledge of Idaho's mining districts, and he's visited places beyond the reach of most of us. He's been deep in mines in Idaho's Silver Valley, pecked at pegmatites in the Sawtooth Wilderness, and discovered new zeolite deposits in the Challis area. The book is packed with outstanding color photographs of a wide variety of Idaho's gems, and his directions in most cases are complete enough to follow. If you're serious about exploring Idaho's riches, you'll want this book in your library.

Well written with great photos, it was much more fun visiting some of the areas that I had been in before, but never explored. If you are traveling to the Great Potatoes State, then this is the guide you need.
