I am truly pleased to have been among the first "early adopters" to own this book as I had been awaiting it for some time. The combination of Alan Minskoff's poetic prose that strikes the balance of staying on the business channel yet expressed so evocatively and Paul Hosefros' legendary photography that includes both close-up and long-view perspectives is truly incredible. Even the index is laced with Paul's photos. As the book is written from a perspective of appreciation with almost a sense of wonder and humanity at what Idaho's vintners have created in state that comes to mind more for potatoes than wine, its sheer beauty may be what strikes you first... and then the wonderful back stories about what brought each of these wineries and their "curators" to their work adds great perspective. The price point on this lovely book should make it accessible to many for gifts as well as those curious about wines from regions beyond Europe and California.

There's a reason both of these gentlemen have received multiple awards for their prior works--Minskoff for his writing, Hosefros for his photography (virtually any of the photos in this lavishly designed book would be fabulous blown up and framed!). With this book, we're the beneficiaries of the fact they decided that this adventure was going to be their passion. I'm sure I'll be buying copies for gifts and prizing my own copy. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have known Alan Minksoff and his family for many years as well as I have written for a number of publications that they have owned in the past, and perhaps that's how this book came onto my radar--but my assessment is really a culmination of the continued appreciation I have had for his work and now with his cohort, the internationally recognized Paul Hosefros, it's an evolution into a new arena.

Spectacular Book!! October 7, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a woman with a real French connection, I have always had two special interests: French wine and fine prose. Mr. Minskoff's and Mr. Hosefros's beautiful book Idaho Wine Country at first fulfilled only my fascination with fine prose. In reading his graceful prose I could readily understand that Alan Minskoff is also a poet. The elegance of Mr. Minskoff's prose style and the magnificent photographs of Paul Hosefros in this coffee table book sparked my curiosity. I decided to try an Idaho wine, which took some doing in Brooklyn. Finally securing a late harvest 2006 Riesling from the Bitner Vineyards, I discovered to my delight (and surprise) that Idaho offers a wonderful and delicious wine.

Absolutely Endearing September 28, 2010
Format:Paperback
Recently a very good friend of mine on his return from Idaho brought me two gifts: one was the beautiful and marvelously written book, Idaho Wine Country, and the other a bottle of a delicious wine. Apparently, my friend happened to be given a copy of the book and wished to try one of the wines detailed in this amazing book. He chose 2009 Davis Creek Sauvignon Blanc which he loved; consequently he brought me a bottle as well. It was as good as any from California that I ever had.

Taking time to go through the book, I learned a great deal about the previously unheard-of wine region, Idaho, and its wineries. In fact, I had never tasted an Idaho wine. Although it seems that I have to order wines now to be shipped to me, as even Sherry Lehman in NYC did not have any wines from Idaho, fortunately Erickson in Idaho does stock them and offered to ship me a mixed case of reds and whites which I await with great anticipation.
