3.0 out of 5 stars good starting place for getting ideas, August 16, 1999

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have owned a business for 17 years and am interested in starting another one. This book was written in 1995 and although covers the computer industry and service related businesses, does not mention internet or e-comerce businesses which appear to be the hot small businesses of 1999. More pages were devoted to which "traditional" businesses to avoid than to which businesses to pursue. This book is written for the sole proprietor who is looking to get into a business part time and with limited capital. Very little detail is given on each "hot prospect" business from the 15 broad catagories listed and even some phone numbers for specific trade orginizations are disconnected.

I was disapointed a grading system was not given for profitability potential among the many businesses recommended although an initial investment (start-up) range was given . It appears the author is highly qualified and experienced in his business appraisal skills yet an updated, 1999-2000 version seems warranted.
