A family favorite for more than 65 years!

Amazon.com

This special-edition game celebrates 65 years of Tripoley, along-time favorite for parties or at-home fun. Tripoley combines the strategy and skill involved in hearts, poker, and Michigan rummy. One game of each constitutes a "round" of Tripoley. The group decides the number of rounds in each game before play begins. After all the rounds have been played, the player with the most chips is the winner. Designed for two to nine players. --Alison Golder

Tripoley...where to start. You begin by dealing the cards evenly to all players, and there are variations which may include you dealing an extra hand. The first game you play is Hearts. If you have either the 10, Jack, Queen, King, or Ace of Hearts, or a mix, then you take all the chips out of those certain dishes; there is a special dish for players who hold both the King and Queen of Hearts, so you would receive the Queen dish, King dish, and the Both K and Q dish. Obviously this will build up in chip value over time with more players as it is harder to get both of these cards in the same hand. Also, during the game of Hearts, if you have an 8, 9, and a 10 all of the same suit in your hand then you receive the chips in that dish. This, as well, will build up over time.
Then you play Poker. You simply take five cards out of however many you have which make up your best Poker hand. If you aren't familiar with Poker, just look at the instructions for what are Poker hands and what are worth more. Start bidding with the dealer and all bets go in the "Pot". The winner, after betting stops, will get all the chips in the Pot.
The last game played is Michigan Rummy, where the dealer lays down his lowest card out of his entire hand. Then the person with the next highest card in the same suit puts down that card, until the Ace of that suit is played or the Stop Card, which is the last highest card played, is played. Whoever put the Stop Card down will then change suits by placing the lowest card in his hand from another suit down. This keeps going until the first person gets rid of all their cards and they claim all the chips in the "Kitty" section.
This game is very, very fun and they also list some variations to the game which make it even more interesting and fun.

Tripoley goes way back in my family. We even had a hand-made Tripoley board, so surely the Tripoley Special Edition is a step up. Since it's three different games in one, it moves much faster than most card games. Even your non-card-playing teenager won't get bored. It's a good way to introduce lots of card game concepts, too, for younger players. And isn't it always fun to win poker chips!?

Tripoley Special Edition, on its swivel base, is very easy to access by all players at the table. The pockets are most convenient to hold your bets (coins or chips) and the board is both easily read and durable. Great fun for up to 8 players. I use it often as a party game for an evening of fun and would recommend it for young (with chips) and old (with pennies or nickels). A great way to spend an evening with friends.

I love this game and purchased this one because it said it was on a turntable. It's not. It's made out of the cheapest plastic that would no doubt be damaged after one use. Imagine
a plastic disposible cup... Needless to say, I returned it and will most likely pay the extra money for a really nice version because the game itself, Tripoley, is great. I played it before on my brothers sturdy 1980s version.

Tripoley is a great, fun game for cross-generation family times together. Our kids have been able to play starting about age 6. My 94-year old grandfather beat us all when we played at Thanksgiving because his poker memory from years back is still so good! We recently had a rousing evening with friends and neighbors playing this. It's not too hard to learn and it's not too simple to tire of. We like this specific set because the game board is very sturdy and the tray twirls to make the buy-in and pay-out easy.

The game is called Tripoley because each time you deal a hand of cards, you actually play three games with those cards before you start the next hand. You buy in with poker chips (provided in the box) and all the cards are dealt. On the first game you get chips for which high value hearts are in your hand (very straightforward). In the second game, you play poker by keeping the best five cards. In the third game, you play a "lower to higher" lay down version of Michigan Rummy with all the cards. For each game, the players get chips based on their play. After the third game, all the cards are turned in, deal passes to the left, all the cards are dealt, and the three games are played again.

It appears there a few versions of Tripoley available now through amazon.com ~ I'm not sure that any specific one is better than the others ... although we are partial to the ones that have the twirly board.

If there were just one family game to own, this would probably be it! (sorry Monopoly, but you really do get very old after the first hour ;)

Tripoley is a really fun game. An entire deck of cards is dealt to the players. An extra hand is dealt to the table to either be swapped by the dealer or another player if they have no pay cards in their hand. The dealer gets the hand for free if they want it. Others have to pay.

The rest of the rules are easy to follow. This is a game that people of all ages can enjoy. It is hilarious when people have pay cards (10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace of hearts) and another person ends the game before the pay card holder can lay them down.

Poker is also part of the game, and as long as the money is just chips or pennies it doesn't get too serious and fun is had by all.

Every Tripoley game we have owned has been well constructed and never wore out. Well, the cards wear out, but we expect that.

If your looking for a good game to play when visitors come over, this is it!
