Book Description

October 6, 2009
Newlyweds Jana and Lawrence return from their Caribbean honeymoon to Los Angeles, where Lawrence is a partner in a prestigious Beverly Hills law firm. After Jana moves into Lawrence’s home in Hollywood Hills, she undergoes a complete lifestyle change and now spends her time shopping and doing charity work with the wives of the other partners. Her days as a student at Bible College seem like a distant memory now that she’s a full-time wife..

Soon Jana and Lawrence’s values begin to clash, and the marriage falls apart. After a spat over Lawrence’s sexual appetite, he tells Jana he wants a divorce. Confused and heartbroken by the sudden turn of events, she slowly realizes that it was physical attraction that drew Lawrence to her—it was never about love. She was nothing more than a trophy wife. So when three months later she meets Garrett Ransom, a handsome widower, she vows that this time, she’s going to do things right. .

In The Ideal Wife , Thomas has written an engaging and inspirational novel featuring ordinary people facing everyday challenges, as they struggle to achieve personal happiness and success while maintaining their faith-based principles..

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Thomas (The Prodigal Husband) offers her female fan base a titillating story that will likely have women outraged and up in arms. She writes for Christian readers, but her topic will challenge them: married couples who opt for the swingers' lifestyle. Jana Collins, a 24-year-old college graduate, is swept off her feet by her older, wealthy husband, Lawrence, who showers her with material goods. But with the gifting comes a demand. Lawrence quickly starts twisting the Bible to get his naïve wife to participate in extramarital activities for his pleasure and against her will. When the lifestyle takes its toll on Jana emotionally and spiritually, she finds the inner strength to hold true to herself despite intense pressure from her husband. Thomas's story line is equally unsettling and disturbing as the male characters manipulate biblical principles for their own selfish purposes and at the expense of their female companions. Female readers will find more heat (as in feeling angry) than help in this story (Oct.)

She was the first recipient to receive the Writers Achievement Award at the North Carolina Book Festival in Winston-Salem.

Although Jacquelin initially published in the romance genre, she decided to follow the call on her heart to write Christian fiction because she seeks to write books that will touch your heart and uplift your spirits with tales of characters who yearn to have an intimate relationship with God. Committed to writing books that glorify God and her growing teen audience, Jacquelin published the first of her Young Adult Inspirational Fiction series titled Simply Divine in October 2006. Jacquelin is a member of the National Writers Union, Romance Writers of America and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She is happily married to her best friend and is the proud mother of three children. Jacquelin and her family live in North Carolina.

4.0 out of 5 stars Whose Ideal?, October 5, 2009
This review is from: The Ideal Wife (Paperback)
The Ideal Wife by Jacquelin Thomas was a book, that at the very beginning I knew where it was going, however, I enjoyed it just the same. Jana has spent her whole life immersed in the Bible. She was actually attending a bible college until she was convinced by her new husband, Lawrence, to quit. Lawrence is entranced with his wife's beauty and though he knows she is ultra-conservative and very spiritual, his mission is to turn her into what he wants her to be. He chooses to use the Bible as a tool to get what he wants. What he does not bargain for is how much his new, much younger wife really knows.

At first, Jana is focused on submitting to her husband, but as time passes she discovers that Lawrence has a lot of issues. One of the bigger issues being that he attends a church where the Word is skewered to allow its parishioners to engage in illicit behavior. There were times when I could not believe what I was reading. It was amazing to read how one could take a passage from the Bible and render an amazing interpretation to fit his or her own desires. Immediately, Jana knows she is not interested in the same things her husband is but, will her love for him, make her change and become what he wants? Or will her sister, Robyn and best friend Graciela, be able to talk some sense into her? More importantly, will her faith sustain her?

Ms. Thomas answers all of these questions in an entertaining and fast-paced manner. And though the reader may know where he or she is going, they will enjoy the ride. I recommend The Ideal Wife to all who enjoy contemporary Christian fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking, October 4, 2009
This review is from: The Ideal Wife (Paperback)
Jana thinks she has it all when she gives up Bible College and marries rich and powerful Lawrence Collins. Settling into a life of luxury, she soon learns that every thing has a price, including love.

In The Ideal Wife, Jacquelin Thomas takes the ideology of submission to a whole new level. This novel not only ministers to women, but also challenges men to evaluate their motives for wanting The Ideal Wife.

4.0 out of 5 stars The 'not so ideal' husband, May 17, 2010
This review is from: The Ideal Wife (Paperback)
This is one of those books that had me asking how often do devout Christian women fool themselves into marrying inappropriate men due to their niaevety, not asking God for His leading, being blinded by the man's wealth, educational status and lifestyle or all of the above? I do not blame the heroine, Jana for her situation but as each problem was revealed in her marriage I kept looking for evidence in the story that she ever asked God if she should marry this man. The story begins with the couple already married so one has to guess how the courtship took place.

However Jana raised by her sister and brother in law (who seemd to vere on the side of extreme shelteredness which IMO did her no favours in the long run) is young, naieve and 'sexually innocent' - she marries an older, wealthy man and is introduced to a lifestyle that shocks her. Lawrence's greatest mistake is being deceptive, a control freak, and basing his marriage on nothing but sexual attraction.
