Great decorating inspiration!,

This review is from: Ideas for Great Baby Rooms (Paperback)
I really love this book, and it's the best one of it's type I've seen out there. It touches on everything from the minimal nursery to the baby room for triplets, to the ultimately elaborate baby suite. There's even a cute jungle room that's actually a walk in closet off of the parent's bedroom! It's got fresh ideas that haven't been done to death, and concentrates on great ideas for gender neutral baby rooms. Full color photos on every page. Also has safety advise and hints for cutting expenses, such as using a dresser outfitted with a pad on top, rather than forking out the cash for a changing table that'll only get 2 years of use. Love this book - I paid $13.00 for mine at Home Depot, an it was worth every penny!

I usually don't find what I need in these types of books, one of many in a serial of themes, but "Ideas for Great Baby Rooms" really surprised me. I noticed it at a friend's house and after flipping through the pages I had to buy one for my library. At first you'll be swept away by the beautiful full page photographs and then when you go back and begin to read the book (so often one buys decorating books for the pictures alone, but this is an exception to that rule) you'll discover there is actually a lot of useful information as well. Every topic is covered from figuring out your budget, to safety, nursery themes (or not), shopping lists, arranging the floor plan, bargain hunting, and what to do if you don't have much time. I appreciate all of the options the author offers at each turn, and her encouragement to find your own style by using the examples in the book as a creative starting point. Many of these nurseries have a personalized feel rather than looking like a cutout from a retailer's catalog (only a couple nurseries looked dated or overdone). This book is more than inspirational, it is also informative and I find myself returning to it often.

I found Great Baby Rooms quite helpful. There are several styles of nurseries ranging from traditional to contemporary. I was able to show my husband nurseries similar to the ideas in my mind and he was able to agree or disagree on my selections.

pretty pictures, enjoyable for "coffee table book" as well,

As much as we'd love to have another baby around, we will most likely never have more infants. Fortunately, we have been blessed with five children and they just love looking at this book! The photos are very clear and obviously they're of beautiful baby rooms. My girls in particular (ages 7 and 14) enjoy looking through the book and seeing all the creative ways to decorate.
Honestly, this is the first book I've ever reviewed that I haven't actually READ. We don't need to read this one to enjoy it. We simply like looking at the photos so we keep it on our bathroom shelf or lying around in other rooms where we can just look at the pictures any time we want. Sometimes we'll sit and discuss which rooms we like best, etc., and the book has brought us much pleasure. Some Nice Ideas, Inadequate Resource List,
By demari18 (Fort Worth, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ideas for Great Baby Rooms (Paperback)
I enjoyed the variety of nursery designs presented. Some were quite dated, but most were classic baby rooms. Important safety tips were a plus. I loved some of the decor so much (a hand hooked rug in particular) I planned to buy, but.... the resource list in the back of the book was sadly lacking product information. Product manufacturers were listed for some but not all items. Strangely enough, credit was given to the designer of some rooms, while merchandise information was listed for others. I agree with the reviewer who said there were great ideas, but not necessarily a way to follow through with them at home!

I was hoping to be inspired by this book- get lots of great unique ideas, instead what I got was things I already knew. The pictures look older and very dated look! Not inspired at all, in fact-- I donated it!

I thought it would have more pictures. I really would like more pictures and less writing.

I disagree with some of the other writers, that thought they got better info from a Pottery Barn catalog. All of your nurseries were original and thoughtful and showed great creativity using a host of different elements from many different places, including items they already had. They didn't have "cookie cutter" on any page. Thanks for the inspiration!
