This is absolutely the best reference book for Southern gardeners. If "it" is not mentioned here, "it" is not meant to be planted in the South. Information is easy to understand for beginning gardeners. I am on my second edition.

I work at a nursery, and we use this book almost every day to inform our customers about the size, shape, varieties, etc. of the plants that we have or suggest for our customers. We call this book at our store the "bible". It is the best book ever written in our opinion. We only wish there were more books like this one. It shows an illustration in black and white of a certain species and ellaborates on the varieties of that species on that page. Each page contains approx. one full page worth of information on the certain plant one would want to research. It is definately a reference book that is designed for professionals. Any one living in the Southeastern US that is serious about shrubs and vines this is the book for them.

I own and operate a nursery and use the book constantly. Not many books focus on the south but finally, one that does. It is very factual and offers a lot of supplemental information in addition to identification of plants.

The title says it all. The only book you need. Colored pictures would be helpful, but black and white are very good.

Best for trees and shrubs, not annuals.

Although the black/white interface may seem antiquated, the plant list is extensive enough to make this a REAL resource for even the nonprofessional gardener. Great and reliable reviews of nearly everything Southern in a garden.

This edition is wonderful, as it is thorough and well organized, elegant in its simple format, making it a highly functional reference to gardeners and landscapers.

This book is a great resource every Southern gardener should have in their personal library.

I've bought more than one copy...this is a great book for the professional or amature gardener. It is a text book must have.
